Economist, 28 Nov 2020So much useless folding. Samsung should start selling newsp... moreThe "S-fold" (3 part fold) was literally the only one understood as one with viable future use. It protects the inner folds, all the while it unfolds to an A5 (book) size, i.e. a 10 incher instead of the useless 7.8 incher (of a useless aspect ratio) we currently get with present folds.

Where you asleep when those talk were taking place, because I remember them well. Finally the companies (seem to) catch up, and you -luddites- are complaining.

Watch yourselves becoming early adopters too, because that is how funny are you (recall the bashing of early iPhones and a few years after every single one of the bashers had one, lol)

I remembered TCL revealed a tri-folding screen concept, but even that is just a concept. As for rollable device, I wonder if Samsung would follow the same idea as LG and Oppo.

also if you're gonna make a notch or hole punch ,Android OEMs, at least do it right and follow Apple or Huawei or Google's examples and tone it down a bit rather than just put 1 camera with all the sensors baked under the screen making them useless (or even omitting them and using the very definitely reliable selfie camera]

AnonD-940827, 28 Nov 2020And it still can't match the Danish designed flip phon... moreThat's like saying a Bugatti still can't match a time travelling DeLorean. You can't compare concept phones to real phones.

Well, foldable tech is still in its infancy and with only four companies (including Royole) selling foldable smartphone/tablet hybrids, and one of them is banned in some countries *cough*Huawei*cough* we won't be seeing that tri-fold smartphone/phablet anytime soon. The rollable screen does seem promising, but that comes with different issues, which the R&D teams need to iron out. I'd give it 5-10 years before we see that tri-fold come to life. the Galaxy Fold's price is still pretty steep and we won't see any mass market products of the foldable tech until it matures enough that it's price goes down.

So much useless folding. Samsung should start selling newspapers, so they can fold them enough times to be happy. However, real world needs real innovations, not a carpet-type folding phone.

People always say like notch is intrusion into the display when it was extension in the corners the entire time. Sure, headphone jack removal is inconvenience in some cases, but has created whole industry around wireless earphones. Holding the phone right thing was said only once back in iPhone 4 era and it's still being regurgitated, some 10 years later. really? Widgets are so much better, they at least look standardized unlike on Android where every looks different and always misaligned with everything else. I do agree that lack of charger is stupid, especially with the lame excuse of ecology. And what sucks the most is how everyone will follow this. We've seen Samsung mocking Apple and then doing it themselves just few months later...

Samsung can do it well only in cartoons

People won't adopt noval ideas from Samsung and Google unless they plan to support the product long term instead every year coming up with new ideas. People are not ready to throw money unlike iPhone users with tons of money to test new features. Smarter Android world only has very less number of foolish people.

This is what the real innovation is. Not the invention of a hideous notch, removing the headphone jack, holding the phone right, widgets or removing the charger from the box

I can already imagine the fact that it will have a similar issues as those who owns a foldable smartphone. And another fact that the tri-folding screen and rollable devices will be priced at $3,000. Much more expensive than the high end iphone at 512GB or a gaming laptop.
