To the best of my knowledge, water resistant itself is not water proof... But nice to see Italy standing up for customers.
It is my firm belief (and I'll defend it to death if you argue) that if a customer is sold an iPhone with a IP rating of 30 minutes, 1.5 meters, then the customer should get warranty if those conditions are met, because it was a selling point of the phone. A common swimming pool accident shouldn't compromise the phone.
And the strong handed manner in which we are tracked in modern world, it should be easy to verify where a customer was. 1.5 metres of water can't be found in some homes, as far as I know...
A super (far better) solution is to have a cleverly placed dry cloth layer before the phone's internals, just beneath the USB/speaker/mic slots, if this patch gets wet due to IP conditions not met, the phone should switch off automatically to prevent damage...
Otherwise, all companies will easily compromise quality later on and IP rating would be tomfoolery of the customer. And leave Apple, what about other, cheaper phone's manufacturers?

The issue is all the misconceptions, many think the IP rating is what make the phone water resistant, so for them saying "no IP rating" is like saying "non water resistant phone", while it actually depend on the build quality, not the certification.
Another one is people not realizing that IP certification isn't waterproof, in fact it isn't even meant to prove a device can operate underwater, but only that a device have chances to survive if it was accidentally encountering liquid.
It is crazy how, when faced with hard proof, most keep considering their personal view as fact and proof as opinion...

Consumers assuming if their phone takes water damage, they automatically have warranty is the same as consumers assuming that their crash-resistant car crashes, the manufacturer will provide warranty.

Well since no phone company or Vendor can guarantee your phone is 1000% waterproof not only water resistant and no phone warranty covers water damge i realyl think water damage resistance or IP certification is completely useless and would and should not be inluded in any description of any phone on this sites or at your local Vendor.

I only do it about feature that are everywhere and that account for so much of the market that other solution aren't available as a result.
In other words, I want the things that are on way too many smartphones to get LESS often made so other options can exist.
It does NOT mean I want it to disappear.
When a feature is letting other options breath, which mean not taking 50% or more of the market by itself while being invasive for the users who don't want them, I am NOT ANYMORE doing this to them.
I love pop up, but if tomorrow 90% of the phones in the market get it, I'll defend other options and say why there should be less phones with a pop up.
If almost no phones get a punch hole anymore, I'll defend it for those who want it.
And as I have already told you a bazillion times, you can't just say "Please big phone company sir, I will like you make less of this and more of that" with a children voice, it NEED to be harshly done, it NEED to be brutal, violent, it NEED to be a slap on the face, it NEED to be as I do, stating what is wrong about that, that is the ONLY WAY to raise awareness of the necessity to make diversity on the market.
You can't just respect a feature that invade everything and praise it while asking less of it is done, you NEED to talk about why it shouldn't be that often put into phones to give space for other features.
How hard is it to understand ?

Bezels :useless and waste of space without biometrics
Ffc, ud ffc:stupid and dangerous unless its pop up.
Waterproofing :stupid, useless and unnecessary.
Simply arguing on all fronts with disparaging comments on almost every opposite opinion.
