Almost 3y old samsung a3 2017 model still reporting 90% battery capacity. No idea if the same protection is in place yet, but i bet it's automatic, once the phone detects a worn battery. No need to intentionally cripple devices like apple did. It's either bad engineering or an outright lie

It's a shame the UK goverment can't grow some balls and demand the same from Apple over here.

"batterygate" is not really about degradation of battery capacity, rather performance throttling for older ios devices. soon as a new iphone is introduced, the ios update that comes after that includes performance throttling for older iphones including those of the previous year. this is turned on automatically upon update, although an option to turn this off is buried in the settings. apple defends this as something that's necessary to ensure optimal performance relative to the age of the battery, in that they are suggesting that battery capacity diminishes after a year. i think this is full of bull crap as i have a 6 year old galaxy note 4, a 3 year old galaxy note 8, a 3 year old razer phone 1, a 2 year old razer phone 2, a 2 year old pocophone f1, and a year old asus rog phone 2 and every single one has kept the same screen on time (some of the phones i already have given to immediate relatives but i still am able to check up on it). the oldest one- the galaxy note 4 is being used by my eldest son and despite him being hooked to mobile games (among us, roblox, call of duty, mobile legends, etc..) he still is able to pull through 6 hours of screen on time like when it was new; well, i did replace the battery for it a few months after purchasing it because it started bloating; but then again the original battery replacement did hold up these many years now. apple uses the same battery type as everyone else- li-poly or li-ion. the only thing that possibly does degrade the battery capacity in iphones is that iphone users use up their batteries' charge cycle faster because iphones do have smaller battery capacity in the first place. don't tell me that i have not used an apple device before because i currently am using a 12.9 inch 2018 ipad pro (i also was previously using an ipad pro 9.7 2016), prior to switching to android i was an iphone user from the original iphone to iphone 4, and last year i also used an iphone 11 pro max for a couple of months.

I have an iPhone6 still going. It's connected to my WiFi and cell service. I only use the phone for texting, calling and using the camera. Despite this the battery drops from 57% to 17% quickly; it even shuts down the phone. Am I still eligible for a battery replacement deal or is that too late?

My dad's galaxy S5 lasted him a good 6 years before the power button fell of. Apart from that he just replaced the battery after it went bloated after 4 years. It is just as easy as opening the back cover and change the battery and you're done!

When Apple trying to be like Android. battery will drain for sure.

AnonD-804996, 03 Dec 2020It's hard to over all the noisy Apple haters gloating ... moreTons of other phones can last beyond 5 years, their batteries don't degrade as much as iPhones because those companies don't engage in tactics that Apple employs to get their users to buy a newer phone.

Primary reason for iPhone batteries degrading earlier is the use of smaller capacity batteries traditionally (11 pro Max was the first phone with a huge bump in battery capacity)
Smaller capacity gives rise to more charge cycles and thereby faster degradation.
