Anonymous, 09 Dec 2020Looking at this kinda make me sad, imagine 12 year ago Noki... moreNokia would've failed with Meego. They could have made Symbian more attractive for developers. But that would've failed against android. BlackBerry is a fine example.
Nokia is no Apple. It should've gone for android when it went for Windows phone OS. That would've at least made sure that we had another relevant competitor in the android flagship space. But considering HTC's downfall, we can't be sure of that either.

Carol, 09 Dec 2020Ever heard of intel? They are actually really good, no seri... moreLet's just assume that you're trolling here for fun rather than being a paid intel troll.
Why do they need amd? Well. They don't. He just stated the obvious fact that amd has better processors whether it is for performance, security or thermal output. Battery performance is also better if you're working continuously. Intel comes on top in battery life only when the laptop is idle.
So for Nokia that used to be one of the most reputed brands to make a comeback after not even having a flagship level product for ages, he was thinking that the best performing processors with better security options would make it more appealing. This is of course not true because most consumers are ignorant to the point that they only know to ask "Is it better than an i7 or i5" if you mention tigerlake or Ryzen. Intel advertisements have brainwashed most people to the point of ignorance. Intel inside means reliable for the layman while the truth is that intel processors have more number of security vulnerabilities than amd, nvidia and arm combined. Over 235 vulnerabilities have been revealed so far since lass than 18 months, more being revealed every month.
Many of these can't actually be fixed at software level and those that can cause severe loss of performance.
So yea, where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise. He shouldn't have talked like that when majority of people are ignorant of how shitty intel is.

Carol, 09 Dec 2020Why are they "turned bad"? Because you say so, or... moreNokia was one of the most trusted brands before the era of smartphones. Well except for BlackBerry customers who were loyal to it. Symbian phones were just better than Java phones.
I think even the Windows Phones (Nokia Lumia) had some fans. But from what I recall, Nokia didn't even get to the 720p screen generation (Galaxy Nexus) before giving up on Lumia.
If you knew what Nokia used to be like and compare it to it's current situation, we'd all understand who's trolling here.

But my vocabulary is lacking to find words to insult a comment which lacks substance and intelligence to that level.
If you were actually serious about your comment, please share why you needed to talk about Macbook (and if it's ARM oe X86 based) on an article which talks about a new laptop from Nokia.....

Anonymous, 09 Dec 2020Nokia can only pick x86 with AMD for any success. If the... moreNot really. Most of the consumers are ignorant when it comes to choice of processors.
Most people ask for an i7 or i5 and in case you talk about ryzen or even amd, they'd ask how they compare to i7. Most people don't even know that i7 is from intel. There are people who don't know what intel is, but trust the laptop based on intel inside. Years of advertising has made intel near invulnerable (in market share) when it comes to laptops. Idiots don't care if intel core chips have been revealed to have over 240 security vulnerabilities in the past year many of them that can't even be fixed, while the one's that can be fixed cause severe drop in performance when patches are applied.
Intel chips are less powerful while being hot, they consume more power when under minimal load, have worse graphics in most models (Xe graphics actually caught up with Vega 8 though it might be hard to find laptops with it).
They come up with misleading claims with biased benchmarks and even force OEMs to cripple amd based products.
They had all the time in the world and the money required to invest on R&D, but they caused stagnation of core count. Had it not been for Ryzen being an actual competitor unlike bulldozer, we'd still be stuck at 4 cores and 8 threats for the highest end consumer products..
And people would rather be in denial than admit that intel tricked them. It's just human vanity.

Even if we consider YoY "growth", HMD is on downfall. That itself explains everything.
Moreover, I currently own a Nokia 6.1 Plus (their best-seller its times) and will never go for Nokia again, until they create good phones and fixes issues like bugs and most importantly, allow the bootloader to be unlocked. I'd anyday, prefer Moto G 5G, over 7.2.

An AMD will easily outperform Intel, considering a similar price bracket.

They were well received because of "Nokia" brand, in 2017. Consumers gave them another chance in 2018. But their focus of creating "only" budget oriented devices and their negligence towards know issues in software, poor cameras, even on flagship (although I doubt if it was one) Nokia 9 PureView, all these factors contributed together in its downfall, from wherever it was.

Looking at this kinda make me sad, imagine 12 year ago Nokia manage to take off with their Maemo or Meego project, they maybe the one who are in the position of Google/Android, instead of what they are today. Instead they solely use Windows Phone as their primary OS, don't get me wrong, I love Windows Phone, however only relying on 3rd party OS instead of their in house develop OS is pretty dumb. And the rest is history now.

Nokia can only pick x86 with AMD for any success.

If they go the ARM route and use snapdragon, Windows 10 arm will be a disaster. Emulation in Windows 10 arm is bad.. super bad, you lose a lot of performance. Unlike Mac's rosetta2 for their MacOS x86 counterparts which see minimum to no impact at all.

Bad time to come into the laptop space Nokia.. Not much supply of AMD chips.. not optimised Window 10 x86 emulation yet.. and a market with a lot of competitors.

Would like to see RISC based processor like Qualcomm Snapdragon or like Apple M1, If its Intel, Nokia is just wasting its own time and money, Since there are plenty of big players in laptop market where Nokia stands no chance to compete, if they don't stand apart.
