Few Whatsapp and even fewer Telegram.
But for example in Romania, a lot of people use Whatsapp.
I think depends on the country.
Imo, I like Telegram more, but if many of the people I know do not use it, then doesn't matter really. You can't text yourself, lol. And you can't force people to like what you like, either.

We've only ever used ... moreHere in India, no one has heard of any messengers apart from FB's own Messenger and WhatsApp. Telegram recently gained traction as it has the ability to transfer of files up to 1.5 Gigs. The first app being installed by newbies would be whatsapp. It literally buried the competition like Hike, Viber and Signal despite copying a lot of features from them.

Well proud user of Viber application whats app i domt care.
And here in Slovakia we have something simmilar to facebook its called POKEC and it was established 30 years ago for computers and later caame for cell phones.
But i do believe every single country have one or more apps simmilar to facebook.
Facebook is not that much important.

Telegram is what we switched over too. Whatsapp has changed their policies in our country, that "criminal key words" may trigger a defence system setup that sends relevant information to local authorities

Out of 195 countries, WhatsApp is the leading messaging app in 169 countries, for example India, UK, Singapore. There's only a few exceptions like China (WeChat is basically their version of Whatsapp plus a few more functions), USA (Facebook Messenger takes the first place).
For comparison, WhatsApp has over 5 billion downloads on the Play Store, Messenger over 1 billion, and Viber only has over 500 million downloads.

This should be unfair of the FTC. As the Facebook defense says, "the deal was confirmed by FTC back in the days".

Is WhatsApp really that popular? We've only ever used Viber and occasionally Telegram over here in the Philippines. Nobody I know uses WhatsApp. Of course the most commonly used is Messenger. But that's only among friends. For alternative to texts most people use Viber. Even WeChat is more popular than WhatsApp. Even Discord is gaining more traction over here.

Is it me or did facebook make those apps better? WHatsapp use to charge until facebook bought it. Instagram got better with facebook.
