Anonymous, 11 Dec 2020Because screen phones can't go bigger than they alread... more3-fold or z-fold, perhaps from Xiaomi?
I will buy it! It will be my foldable tablet.
Heavy, yes! Fat, yes! Expensive, yes!
It's still better than carrying both tablet and a phone.
Besides it's easiet to carry in a pocket than a tablet.
I will certainly buy it. Hopefully there's a pen.
Then it might be a Samsung?
      I'll buy it!

Can't predict the durability and resistance to fold and unfold... We ha flip phones which vanished as no much buyers for the same...
This implies that foldable phones may not click unless the durability to sustain the wear & tear of frequent folding and unfolding is taken care..

This is the future. The only thing holding it back is affordability. Nobody wants less screen. I don't care if it folds rolls or detaches. 2 screens is a must.

Shady69, 11 Dec 2020but, why tho? are they desperate to lose money?Because screen phones can't go bigger than they already are without not being mobile anymore.

Remember phablets? That is how we used to call what we currently call "phones". They all look like giant flip flops... yet their screens are still too little for content consumption.

So next logical step is to make them bigger with also (them) being pocketabpe.
So we are getting two - way foldable (basically 8 inch phones)...

When tech goes further we'd start getting 3-way foldable. So at that point phone would reach 10 inches (when fully unfolded), which IMO would the limit of personal devices... 10-11 inches at the most.

You'd still get foldable laptops/tablets (10 inch folded, 15 unfolded), but they would be a niche item much like modern tablets (they'd basically replace modern tablets/laptops). They'd run desktop apps (say they'd run Apple M8, in Apple's case)...

So most all people would have phone-tablets and some (would have) tablets-laptops.

Foldables are the only future up until mid century at least (before we go all the way to implants that is)

No Huawei? They were the only one to make a foldable not look like a brick (only 1cm of thickness)...

I have the Z Fold 2 and the crease is nothing it doesn't affect you. The issue right now is that some apps aren't compatible with the aspect ratio of the screen inside and sometimes even the outside of the phone so you have to go to settings and set a specific aspect ratio for that app.

It will be interesting to see how this develops. I might be wrong but I don't see yet this becoming a big market, screen crease has a bit of refinement to go yet. Not pocket friendly.

Hollupaminute, 11 Dec 2020I enjoy my fold 2. And it ain't for bragging (since I ... moreUsing a Duo I agree with you, there is a real benefit here from my point of view mainly for multitasking and being able to cross check things I guess its also media consumption for you with a larger screen.
Anyway I don't see how I could go back to a 'normal' phone after getting used to this its just make so many things easier to handle on my phone that I normally would need a tablet or laptop to do.
