Can they not just roll back to the previous edition menu? seriously the new layout is pure garbage, having to swipe each one of the different settings rather than having all the light/color/details settings in one bloc, is a total waste of time and less clear.

I really want to see Portrait Blur rolled out to the Google Photos app from the Play Store and not just exclusive to Pixels instead of this. It's definitely impressive but Portrait Blur would be way more useful. A lot of phones don't let you punch in 2X for the proper focal length, this would make for a good workaround.

This is EXACTLY what I often talked about (and even linked a "Two Minute Papers" video about the exact same effect) by saying that we need high resolution, photography oriented depth sensors, as opposed to high precision but low resolution scanning depth sensors, to allow real time generation of effects like this.
As always, people fight my idea and say they won't happen, it isn't possible, it is useless, no one care, and few month latter, boom, it actually happens, sadly most won't ever learn...
Here the issue is the same as Clearview AI, Google Photos use user pictures to train their AI, the same way they do it with reCAPTCHA, and this is a big privacy issue and violation as they are USING your pictures, not just storing them, the difference is huge, and outside the privacy concern, I really hope people don't trust Google with AI, in fact if we didn't already live into a dystopian messed version of what the reality should have been, we would all have fought Google a while back already.
So yeah, we could have our phones being able to do such effects and many more directly by themselves and in real time (as they wouldn't have to compute depth) but because people who have no idea what they talk about say that it isn't possible constantly come whining about any suggestions, it isn't about to happen.
This is crazy how people are capable to complain about anything that would give them better things...
