Good way to think about it is lightbulbs: Incandescent, CFL, LED
MiniLED tech is just the bridge technology until MicroLED is widespread in a couple more years. That's why it's kind of dumb to pay a ton for a TV today. I think by 2025 TVs will be incredible. The burn-in downside of OLEDs will be solved.

Does no one see that the TV industry searched for years to find av way to force people to buy new TV's after almost a decade of stagnation ?

They found it in making us think a little gray around a small percentage of dark scenes is actually noticeable unless someone points it out and creates 8000 youtube videos on the subject and the next 4 generations that will incrementally improve on it.

Unless you are in a totally dark room and are a total geek... ENJOY THE CONTENT and stop examining every pixel.

Anonymous, 05 Jan 2021No, they won't. But it's still interesting to see... moreYou are confusing Mini and Micro LED. These new Mini LED still uses a backlight made with around 10,000-25,000 zones of white or blue leds. MicroLED used individual on/off RGB led for pixels. TCL and others already sell Mini-LED backlight tv, but only with around 2,000-3,000 zones.

„The tech has been in the works for a while now and perhaps this is the year we will start seeing it in consumer-ready devices.“

Uhh I think it has been available for 2 years now, first in the TCL 8 series, then in the 6 series as well. Also, these 1’000-3’000$ TVs won‘t compete with Samsung‘s 70‘000$ micro-LED TV
