Report: the two iPhone 13 Pro models will use 120 Hz LTPO OLED displays from Samsung

06 January 2021
LTPO is more power efficient than LTPS, but also more expensive, so it will be a premium feature on the Pro models.

IPhone only accounts for few percentage of total phones sold. Majority of the phones are from Android and most of them have HRR these days.

People talking about high refresh rate is a thing of the past. They are already using it.
Even the non techy people are already using it as it is available on most of the devices these days.
Introduction of high refresh rate on iPhone 13 won't start the high refresh rate craze. It is already here. Apple simply late to the party.

Although the iPad implementation of 120hz wasn't the best as it would often drop refresh rate or lock it to 60hz in certain apps and games.

Those are the facts. Keep believing that there is no difference and Apple quality control is fantastic.

In normal daily use both are really smooth and no noticable difference.

Not that interesting. I have a S20 and an iPhone 12 pro max. I tried 120hz and noticed barely anything. Just scrolling into social media is slightly faster. Both are very smooth on 60hz.

Samsung is doing screens for all iPhone 12 models, and LG is helping with iPhone 12 and 12 Pro as much as they can, LG Isn’t making all iPhone 12 and 12 Pro screens. They aren’t capable of doing so many of them and so fast what Apple is selling iPhone 12.

If Android manufacturers will ask for $ 150-200 each year for routine developments (slightly more powerful processor, slightly better camera sensors, a little more battery, etc.); Soon the iPhone family becomes the Price / Performance king.

The truth is that the only reason for this $ 200 price increase (at least 90%) is 5G technology.

Remember when they introduced 5G acting crazy over it in late-2020 even though android phones have been supporting it since 2019.

                    I was criticising apple...

Also by mainstream, I mean something ordinary non-techy people will be talking about. Sometimes you tech folk are wayy to seperated from society.

To be brutally honest, I would sacrifice the 120Hz screen refresh rate for a bigger battery. I still cannot see the true advantage of a higher screen refresh rate in the real world despite numerous attempts apart from mobile gaming, so I wouldn't move on from 60Hz. But at least the LTPO OLED display's screen refresh rate is an adaptive type, so I might forgive that.

120hz and above is already mainstream on all flagships barring a few like Huawei.

Most of the high end smartphone display market is captured by Samsung. More the number of panels, more the likelihood of problems, and more the complaints.

The tint issues on some AMOLED panels are nothing but an assembly problem, not a screen problem.
Apple, Huawei, Samsung also had this problem.
In case of Huawei, they said, it was caused by using too much sealer or glue during the assembly process.

If it was a screen issue, it would have happened to all units.
This is is why only some batches of these phones have the issue.

Oppo Find X2 Pro did not have to tint issues but OnePlus 8 pro with same display did.

Ybahadir, 07 Jan 2021I do not agree. All Android manufacturers made a price inc... moreBut the rest of the components were outdated.
Android flagships come with higher Watt chargers in the box. If Apple were to sell those separately, they'll charge 100$ for 30W charging.
The camera hardware and others are all inferior compared to huge custom sensors on Android flagships. Same with the battery capacity. Apple uses smaller capacity batteries to keep cost low.
If you really think Android manufacturers are more Greedy than Apple, then you need a reality check.

Did you say that if you are introducing a technology for the first time, you can increase the price as much as you want or does it mean that 5G costs were higher a year ago and now it is cheaper?

If 5G costs were more expensive last year, prices should come back $ 150-200 on this year's flagships, right?

All Android manufacturers made a price increase of around $ 150-200 for their products in the transition from 4G to 5G. Apple also upgraded all its products to 5G. But it did not make a single penny price increase. It just took the adapter and headset out of the box. These are worth $ 38.

Who is more greedy? I'm not sure.
