What I wanna know is if they would be putting out 4.2" 16:9 720P @330 ppi Super AMOLED display. I have dream of watching 720p movies at proper aspect ratio on my mobile phone for a long time now...

I'm techy person and trust me this makes no sense why release so much high end technology and more than half the world doesn't have what is required to push it. alot of features on todays high end smartphones are pretty much useless to the users. So why go the extra mile for something that people wont even use??????????????????????????

EskeRahn, 29 Aug 2012This statement is utter nonsense: "440ppi, which mean... moreSo you're telling me you can distinguish each pixel in a black line at 20cm, and tell me the exact pixel count?

If you really can do that, you're superhuman, and read your newspaper from across the room simply because you can. If you can't look at the line and tell me it has 5 pixels, then you're merely human (and full of it).

I have a feeling that very soon HTC would announce a new smartphone that would use this 5" 1080p screen, and it would be commercial within several months.

EskeRahn, 29 Aug 2012This statement is utter nonsense: "440ppi, which mean... moreIt's so often said that someone 'with good eyesight' (conveniently ruling out anyone who tests it for themselves, as obviously their eyesight wasn't good enough) can see pixels at this kind of range. Well, my close eyesight is about as good as anyone's (long-range is another matter, but still), and I can only just see pixels on the iPhone 4's display. The problem is, if you look as close as you would need to see pixels... it starts to blur out again as your eyes lose focus. 400+ppi should leave pixels near-completely unnoticable at any range (not necessarily invisible, I'll admit, but close enough).

                          This statement is utter nonsense:
"440ppi, which means that you won't be able to see individual pixels even if you have your nose pushed against the glass."
People with good eyes will be able to see individual pixels from a distance of about 35cm (6000/440*2.54cm), and if you are an old guy (like me), you would be able to see them from approximately half that, or 18cm.
So this makes VERY good sense!

(If your eyes are even worse, so you can't see it, I would recommend you to contact an optometrist, rather than posting stuff like the above sentence)

It is an urban legend that the limit of what a human can see is 300ppi. This limit holds on a viewing distance of 20inches or 50cm ONLY!

whether it is seen with the naked eye or with a microscope..the need for such screens will arise in due time.apart from that,we are talking about technology in its awesomenes...the drive to make things better and finding new ways to make the imposible posible...i bet u it will never end

This disply will find application in next-generation 3D smartphones. As you know, the use of 3D effects real resolution reduced by half. So to achieve resultat of 300PPI for 3D image display needs to have density higher than 600PPI

"Simple math says that a 5" panel with such resolution will have a pixel density of just over 440ppi"

Is it that simple? I have to use this: http://members.ping.de/~sven/dpi.html

I remember when SHARP announced their first "retina" display on the SHARP 904SH in 2006 - that thing boasted a 2.4" VGA 330ppi screen and people didn't care for it at all. That was 4 years before the retina screen became cool even.

It's funny how you need ONE bigshot to make something cool and everyone else will follow. SHARP were quiet about their achievements - APPLE weren't.
