Anon, 15 Jan 2021Its a good move. Telephoto is pretty much useless in Mobile... moreYeah, good point. after thinking about it I agree. Hardly ever use the 5x periscope on my phone either in practice. Would prefer if they had a better ultrawide with autofocus though that could double as a macro but a good main camera is the most important thing

I have a phone with 3x tele, and i have used it... Maybe 10 times in the last 2yrs to take something at 3x distance. Most people are simply using it to take macro shots!
Primary sensor and an ultra wide are the only things we need on a phone and maybe a macro that can act as depth sensor too. (We only need 2 cameras, or maybe 3 at the best)

LG Superfan, 14 Jan 2021Hopefully they also has telephoto like V30 seriesUnfortunately looks like it doesn't. A lot of companies seem to be getting worse camera setups and dropping telephoto lenses. Xiaomi dropped the telephoto with the mi10, Oneplus with the 8/8t, Oppo with the Reno 5pro. Honor had the 3x telephoto on the V30 series, a 5x periscope on the Honor 30 series (non-pro, pro and pro+) and now back to none on the v40.

AnonD-964130, 14 Jan 2021Will it have google support now that they are separate from... morePreviously I was so heavily reliant on Google eco-system, I could not think of using a phone without my absolute necessary apps like Gmail, Chrome & Keep. Three weeks back I got hold of a Honor 9X Pro (6/256 GB, Global variant), as they were selling dirt cheap for stock clearence @INR 12.75K ($170/€156) in India. This is the first time I ever used a phone devoid of Google Mobile Services (GMS) as 9X Pro is solely reliant on Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). Hence no Google Playstore in this Honor.
After using the phone for two weeks without GMS, now I can safely say I can live with it. Inbuilt Huawei AppGallery and authentic Amazon AppStore fulfills 70% of my app needs in this phone. For the rest 30% I get it from ApkPure app store. In this phone I have completely switched to Microsoft Cloud based eco-system. I trust it. Believe me when I say Microsoft eco system is damn good on Android. Just never used it before as I was so accustomed to the Google ecosystem on Android.
I changed from:
a) Google Gmail -> Microsoft Outlook
b) Google Chrome -> Microsoft Edge
c) Google Keep -> Microsoft OneNote
d) Google Docs, Sheet, Slides -> Microsoft Office
The Edge browser particularly impressed me. I can safely say it has reached to the level of Chrome, maybe just 2% behind. Everything is as snappy as Chrome but with more added features like Collections tab which I love. In my Windows PC, I synced all my Chrome bookmarks & history to Edge on a second and voila, it is now available on the Edge browser of my PC as well as to Honor 9X Pro thanks to similar cloud based eco-system like Google. In my eyes Microsoft is the saving grace on non GMS Android phones.
Apart from the software the Honor 9X Pro is a great phone for its price. The Kirin 810 SoC built on 7nm fab process is a beast and pulls up Snapdragon 845 grade performance. Thanks to my friends, I was able to directly compare it with Poco X2/ Redmi K30, Realme 7, Poco X3 & even Poco M2 Pro/ Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Everything considered, in my eyes only two phones stands out, the X2 & 9X Pro. X2 have better cameras front & rear and GMS. For everything else 9X Pro is the best. Now I know the strength of Huawei backing Honor. It remains to be seen what the independent company can do now.

LG Superfan, 14 Jan 2021Likely same sensor as P40 and Mate 40 but 2MP laser focus? ... moreThink that 2mp bit might be a mistake. Looks like it might be just a regular laser focus sensor like they had on the V30 series

The true question is: With Kirin officially gone (for now), will they be able to maintain the same image quality with the Mediatek SoC with different ISP?

Likely same sensor as P40 and Mate 40 but 2MP laser focus? That's new and if they really plan to use macro sensor atleast make it higher resolution (8MP atleast) and better focal lenght and auto focus and really sad they dropped telephoto which V30 had
