"An unnamed Asian smartphone OEM has said they would “diversify into other products running Windows” in response, and now Samsung officials have also told Korea Times that they would be doing the same, and reduce their reliance on Android.
Samsung was “closely partnering with Microsoft (MS) to cut its dependency on Google Android, according to officials Wednesday” they write."
Goodbye android

Great development! though it's sad that most of the less developed parts of the world have been totally ignored in this software update calendar. SG2s are still yet to taste ICS in many parts of Africa though there are many people here who have purchased the gadget believing and trusting they would not be discriminated because of their location! Samsung should make sure that this happens b4 availing Jelly beans anywhere! B4 Jelly beans hits users,ICS should have already been over and done with all over the world. Hope this is done, for it can be done.

Well, times change.
The OS on the smartphones we're talking about isn't as old as Windows, thus it is more "development in progress" and because of this users are (kind of) dependant on updates. When buying, users also expect the vendor to integrate new versions of the OS into the already sold hardware nowadays (they have no "right" on this, they simply expect it). Because it's simply the way things are done now. Heck, even my TV gets updates via Internet.
Furthermore, Android is basically Open Source and lives and evolves while in use (in which it differs from monolithicly sold systems); so OS-updates are part of the principle the whole thing is built upon.

Anonymous, 30 Aug 2012lol. Have you heard of nexus s, Its is the same as galaxy s... moreLearn to read... I did not say, it cannot run 4.1, I simply said, that you do not have the drivers for your SoC and this is why you wont have 100% compatibility. Do you know what? SGS1 has ICS and JB already at XDA, but this is not what I meant, so stop being a smartass.

Anonymous, 30 Aug 2012People have been buying pc/laptop worth thousand of dollars... moreSilly comment!
This is a Smartphone website, it kind of makes sense that the people who would comment on here are those who have an interest in this area of technology and thus like their devices kept up to date in an efficient manner.
And yes people do actually spend alot on these devices and usually sign lengthy contracts as well, they do this usually with the promise that the manufacturer will offer updates in a timely fashion.
Do you work for Samsung? Is it any skin of your nose what people on here want? If not then what's your problem?

People have been buying pc/laptop worth thousand of dollars for decades and never complaint when microsoft came out with new os and they have to spend extra money to get the new os. Now for only spending few hundreds bucks on a gadget they sure bitch a lot for new os from manufactures even if it came late, as if their gadgets will become useless and not functional without new os. Lol
