Samsung details the ISOCELL HM3 - the 108 MP sensor used in the Galaxy S21 Ultra

15 January 2021
The sensor can output 12-bit HDR, has a low-noise mode, which boosts sensitivity in low light, and an improved autofocus system.

A14 SoC is new and Exynos 990 is 1 year older.

      AnonD-923722, 16 Jan 2021It doesn't have OIS Neither my Honor 8 Pro, Mate 20 & P40 as well.

AnonD-923722, 16 Jan 2021It doesn't have OIS That is true. Sony never put OIS on their smartphone camera until the introduction of Xperia 1 in 2019. The only time they put OIS was on the XA Ultra, XA1 Ultra, and the XA2 Ultra but that was on the front camera.

The OP is merely... moreI've seen him calling Samsung "copycat" once and using the same term to describe Chinese companies multiple times in a mildly sinophobic context as well (though most of them got removed by GSMA's moderation team), so I know that whenever he uses the term "copy" it carries a negative connotation.

Aierlan, 16 Jan 2021Definitely weaker than Hm1. It's basically the same ap... moreTrue that. Really not impressed with the new 0.7µm Samsung sensor. The pixel size is smaller than what Samsung offered for HM1 and HMX. 0.1µm difference may doesn't sound like a lot, but put it under Quad or Nona Bayer pixel binning and it really shows smaller effective pixel pitch size.

Anonymous, 15 Jan 2021Xiaomi is using HM2 for mi11. Not same sensor. It's HMX, not HM2.

If findable, 16/512 is a good option which worth stay next to 12 pro max 6/512.

A good combination of both exclusivity in their stores for the next 7 years.

Samples I saw are amazing, more mature image processing than previous Samsung. Possibly the best 3x & 10x optical zoom as well (where DxO points are taken). The best part? Samsung looks like finally use Super Res algorithm in between FL, provide higher quality details (maybe from SD888 ISP).

But lets not forget, P50 are coming out soon.

With all these improvements and still it wont get first place in Dxochinamark.

Same trick us... moreThe problem with Sony Z series is, 20/23mp output looks like 10mp while the downsample 8/12mp looks like 5mp, image processing with bunch of artifacts & oversharpening details. Own bunch of them before.

My older Honor 8 Pro smaller sensor at 12mp provide much much better resolution details, let alone later on my Mate 20 (better than Honor 8 Pro, stretch more gap than Xperia Z) which has same sensor size as Xperia Z series.

Now currently on my P40, hands down near to none oversharpening with near noise free output. Details are plenty, of course because of the big 1/1.28" sensor size. Really really happy everytime shooting with it.

AnonD-923722, 16 Jan 2021YeahThere's no imx682 or imx686 sensor in that so your point makes no sense. Judging a camera off that test is not the wisest in any case there is such a small sample of images and none in true lowlight and no people pics in indoor situations. Watch some of the more comprehensive tests. There are plenty of them available e.g. Han's Tech Talk, technology Jock, Gadgets 360 to name a few

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2021Buddy Samsung themselves said it is successor to HM1. Successor in time and number but not in specifications. It is designed to be more compact but not better. You only have to see the specs.
