"Even Dimensity 1200 is barely mid-range" what the heck do you even mean by that? Are you saying a chip that is on par with either snapdragon 865+ or 870 is called "barely mid range"? So you mean SDM 865+ and 870 are also mid range?

If it is that much easy why other chipmakers can't do that (Broadcomm, TI, Pinaeapple etc...)
If not easy and Mediatek capable of hard stuff then why Mediatek always makes one of the baddest chipsets at the market.
Even Dimensity 1200 is barely mid-range.

Maybe you will be 30% behind Snapdragon 865 on 1000 or 1100 or 30% behind 888 on 1200 (higher frequency) but you will get more than twice the framerate you can get on Snapdragon 765G...
Comparer with PC, GTX3090 is a gaming GPU...GTX3080 is still one!
You can buy 1100 and 1200 for :
- TSMC's 6nm (very close to Samsung's 5nm)
- AV1 hardware video decoding (unavailable on Snapdragon 888!...already on 1000)
- multiframe video recording (unavailable on 865...already on 1000)
- 5G carrier aggregation (unavailable on 865...already on 1000)
I will probably get one for these reasons, as Dimensity 1000+ isn't available in my country, I hope 1200 or 1100 will...depend of cameras setup the devices will offer.

Whatever patents and stuff they are still able to put a lot of chips in various oem devices, just the dimensity is barely available outside china. Helio is in a lot of stuff. Why did they all use that 810 though, did they have a long term contract with qualcomm something? 888 isnt good, but not 810 level trash. 1200 will probably have much better efficiency in every area. If only it had a better gpu too.
That gfxbench results show a 30% increase on qualcomm, thats a generation of difference. Qhd screen res doesnt mean games run at that res. Most heavy titles run at 720-800p. So mediatek loses again.

Is th... moreMaybe Asphalt 10 when it comes out the asphalt Sierra always has the best graphics from launch - maybe for those games ported of from consoles/PC like pubg NFS when the new versions come out don't expect any games with Ray tracing to come out at least until 2022/3

If this difference is top small, Mediatek won't sell any soc.
Qualcomm is able to sell massively even defaillant soc (exemple : Snapdragon 810)...due to the name and/or essential patents
When Mediatek wasn't able to sell the good Helio X30.
You have to change people (and OEM) mind and it's long (there are still people who talks about GPS issues from 2013!!!!). You can't if you're not able to sell.
It's a matter of compromise between price and performances.
Nevertheless, Mediatek announced 130fps on GFXBench Manhattan 3.0 when SD888 gets 169fps...not that bad.
In fullhd+, you will get better framerate on D1200 than on SD888 in QHD+.

I just want to clarify some things.
So, another specifics for these chips are:
Ultra Core A78 in D–1200 is not only binned at 3 GHz for difference, but in cache: 2×L2 (compared to standard A78 i assume).
The APUs or NPUs in these chips are upgraded too. With better multi-tasking scheduling, which can lower their latency & better the efficiency.
Turns out, these can do native FP16 computing, which relieve some GPU use cases in AI reliant tasks, which in turn, i think, can boost the GPU performance.
Hence the better GPU perf.
Ray Tracing is done with the Picture Quality Engines inside them.

Anyways, i dont really care about that... I always consider this as alternative to high end Snapdragon .. as long as they dont price it as high as high end sd and competitive enough in midrange ... Then im good to use any mediatek soc.
