LG Rollable's fate still undecided, may be canceled even if LG keeps its mobile division

22 January 2021
The LG Wing won awards, but not customers - its poor sales have cast doubt on the performance of the Rollable in the marketplace.

I've been in love with LG since i bought LG G Pro 2. i have a high sense of brand loyalty, but even with that, loving LG is like a one-sided relationship. although i pay no mind to slow software updates and the weak marketing presence, i love the phones released by the company because they are literally innovative pieces. what actually killed it for me was when a lot of G4 devices suffered from bootloop which was traced to a faulty manufacturing process, thereby making the G4s a device with a ticking life span. while Samsung managed to do a recall of Note 7s (even those out of warranty), LG was still adamant that the bootlooped G4s needed to be under warranty for a replacement, or else, pay over $200 for a replacement motherboard.

LG should also step up their warranty, and make it so that devices sold in Europe will still be eligible for replacement even in Asia.

I love lg's product line. I had the G6 V30 and now the V60. They maintain features i value (sd card, 3.5) and get better with each model. Software updates are slow to roll out but that's not something I prioritize. I love the Manual camera controls for photo and video they include on stock software. It would be a real shame if they stop making new phones.

LG's problem is that its not even trying in terms of marketing...

I'm a customer who had to go after LG just to get a phone, its this tough to be a LG customer.

They have chance to actually Knock-Out each and every Mobile Companies now. They keen to provide good quality phones and most important 3.5mm Jack. I am more than 100% sure that the feature of 3.5mm alone will hit every other phone company out in next few years. Companies are not seeing the dark future of coming years and following Apple blindly and not providing such an important feature. Like Nokia, they will be out of market sooner than later. At one time, Nokia was having more than 80% Market share but they had to shut down their shop within 2-3 years of Android introduced. Similarly, these companies, who are thinking that removing 3.5mm Jack is good thing for future, they will regret later and may need to shit down their shop like Nokia if 1-2 companies like LG and Sony continue to provide 3.5mm Jack and come up with nice design phones.

So funny that they boasted their future mobile products BEFORE reading the mobile sales records...LOL!

LG still bragging their "first" innovator on many cellular features, but they still failed in this business miserably. Hi LG, do you want to know why do you fail? Here is the key; you did not make any product that last long! I use your product twice, LG Optimus G, and LG G3, happy on the beginning, but soon changed to big disappointment. The first, broken on touchscreen and also camera blur, the second, LG G3 died in less than 2 years still with pristine body condition, without any symptom, just died. Never again I will buy LG cellular. Today I use only mid tiers ASUS product, and never failed for almost 3 years with rough usage.

[deleted post]This is the future I was sold and I want it now. :)

LG Wing was the coolest and most fun phone in the last year and this LG Rollable might even be better at that + more practical and sturdy than any foldable out there, so LG must release it and do no stupid things like selling its mobile division since it already is on a good path, just they need to release faster software updates, choose better SOCs for their budget phones and do better marketing, they can easily be a top 5 OEM

This is silly logic. The LG Wing made no sense at all. The Rollable, however, makes a lot of sense and I want one!

impinas, 22 Jan 2021What do you mean save "some bucks"? Samsung, for ... moreIt's true and I hope that sales figure for S20 will show exactly when Samsung tried to did this with the S6, I'll hope that history repeat itself. But right now with the lot of people of cloud era, it's not the same I guess.

So perhaps it's better to look at Oppo or Vivo for Perfomance/value like the Vivo X60 Pro+ 5G (What a mouthful)

Perhaps they are a little bit ahead of their time ? And with all the loss accumulated it's starting to seem weird to continue in this expensive business ... They don't have the same budget as Samsung or even Oppo I think, add the poor targeting availability and high price and you have a similar situation to ... Sony, with even poorer sales figure. That's sad :/

Wily2021, 22 Jan 2021” There's no question as to if it would sell or not.” ... moreThere's several things dumb about what you just said and I argue enough on this site so I think I'll save myself an essay and ignore it.

LG wonder why their sales keep dropping maybe its because they never even bother to sell it outside Northern America predominatly.
How do you increase sales when you only sell your phones in a very limited markets especially after spending all the costly R&D, LG marketing is out of this world, remeber when oneplus first started you could only buy online.....maybe LG should be doing that because instead of trying to sell at skyhigh prices to cover R&D they should distribute globally and sell at moderate price in mass markets and concentrate on distribution for Wings & V60 globally unlock Dual Sim phones rather than always relying on carrier locked single sim phones only, like Northern America predominantly; what about Europe and Asian countries....they dont even bother to market and there are huge market LG miss out entirely!

There isn’t as it wouldn’t have sold. And also we have no idea what hurdles these rollable need to get over before it’s something worth of buy. For example how 3rd apps would react to that expanding screen? Would every app need to be redesigned to support it. I think it would and that’s really big hurdle.

I also think they won’t never release it because it’s more like wet dream than a product ready for market, i think LG actually knows this, they just wanted to leave the market and give something to talk about and they did a great job by it. Their rollable propably isn’t anywhere near market ready product. That’s my prediction.

Samsung makes many of the components they use, LG does not. This helps to lower final price.

Z Fold is more than $2000, how is this one supposed to cost less?

No SD4xx can do 4K. Similar chips from mediatek not even 1080@60.

If LG were to launch this below $2000 with a properly cooled 888, it'd save their mobile division. There's no question as to if it would sell or not.

The Wing was a really cool experiment, but it didn't really seem that practical to me. What I'd love is a dual screen phone like the Velvet or G8X with Dual Screen, but integrated, not detachable, and with the gap between the screens minimized as much as possible.
