Google Camera update adds option to disable Auto Night Sight

Previously, Auto Night Sight was enabled every time you launched the app. The Auto Flash mode is still missing, though.

And as I said, it's not just the 3a, also the Pixel 5 exposes up to approximately 6.5 seconds (without counting the processing time).

As I have said, Pixel 5 and Pixel 3a Night Sight take up to approximately 7 seconds. Measured multiple times with Pixel 3a. And the Engadget Pixel 5 youtube video even shows that it takes up to 6.5 seconds as I already said. Really, I don't know why I have to repeat everything, but I guess that's the internet...

Night Sight can choose an exposure time of 1/2s - 1s per frame, that's one reason why it often leads to blurry photos. HDR+ enhanced chooses 1/5s per frame. Most of the time HDR+ enhanced produces better results than Night Sight in low light conditions.

        Night sight might take 7 sec on your Pixel, it doesn't take that much on other devices.

        How can Cheap phone like pixel 3a give you night sight in 2 sec like flagship?

But otherwise HDR+ enhanced (exposure compensation can be used for bright low light photos) usually takes better (sharper and faster) low light photos than Night Sight. HDR+ enhanced can basically always produce a sharp result and only takes up to 2.5 seconds, if you don't zoom. Night Sight takes up to approximately 7 seconds (as I said) and often leads to slightly blurry photos, so you have to take the photo again. So in the end it's actually even 14s vs 2.5s

I have a Pixel 3a and I am the one who mentions that Night Sight takes up to 6-7 seconds and this can be also seen in the engadget Pixel 5 video. So this is a fact, nothing theoretical. And by the way, reviews usually don't mention such things.

                  And no, smartphones like the iPhone 11 Pro or even iPhone 12 Pro capture about the same amount of light per time as the Pixel 5. So no, it doesn't necessarily need to take up to 7 seconds. The Pixel 3a even proves this with HDR+ enhanced, which takes only up to 2.5 seconds, if one doesn't zoom and usually produces better results than Night Sight. Again nothing theoretical, these are real world experiences.

                      Also the camera hardware on Pixel is an ancient 1/2.55" sensor.
                      Modern smartphones have much better/bigger sensors which are capable of taking in more light.
                      This is why night sight takes much less time on other phones especially flagships.
                      Therotical junkies like you have never used a device with night sight, all you can do is rely on half baked info from tech sites without any real world experience.

On a Pixel 3a I have measured that Night Sight can take approximately up to 7 seconds. And the Engadget youtube video "Pixel 5 review: An off year for Google fans" shows the duration of the Pixel 5 Night Sight mode at 11:45. I measured that the Pixel 5 took approximately 6.5 seconds.

                        HDR+ enhanced is for extremely low light conditions, too. HDR+ enhanced is just a fast Night Sight mode, more comparable to Apple's night mode, which takes 1-3 seconds (instead of Night Sight's up to 7 seconds).

                          Night sight doesn't take 7 seconds. Maybe it's on the pixel 3a specifically.
                          Even non pixel devices take 2-3 sec for night sight.

                              It's a huge mistake that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 don't have HDR+ enhanced. HDR+ enhanced is much better than Night Sight. On a Pixel 3a Night Sight takes up to 7 seconds, whereas HDR+ enhanced takes up to 2.5 seconds, if you don't zoom. So it's much faster and the results are also sharper usually. By using exposure compensation, HDR+ enhanced can also achieve as bright photos as Night Sight in most light conditions. Actually Apple's night mode is more comparable to Google's HDR+ enhanced as Apple's night mode is much faster than Night Sight, too.
