Airtel becomes the first carrier in India to test a 5G network, is holding off the launch

28 January 2021
The CEO said that the network is ready to go - but launching now would be a mistake as true 5G experience requires more spectrum.

I think u mistook my comment for something else.
And btw I couldn't care less about 5G and am really in noo mood to jump on the bandwagon.
Sure, in a few years when every phone would have 5G, there would be no other option left other than to buy a 5G phone. But for the time being, I'm still rocking my 3.5 year old SD820 powered phone (due for a battery replacement), mostly bcoz of it's compact size and I feel that it's fast enough for the things I use it for. I was even planning to buy the 950XL for $250 recently, but the only hurdle is migrating all family & work comms to Telegram, so I've dropped that plan. I really loved the 5 II as well, but it's waaay beyond my budget.

And here we are in the Philippines thinking we have the worst mobile services in the world. Yet, one of our mobile providers targeted to hit 80% 5G coverage in Manila's metropolitan area by end of 2020. I thought they were just exaggerating but I just got a 5G phone and I see 5G coverage almost everywhere now (in the city)

Come on India telcos. I know it's pandemic times, but you can do so much better than this.

Naveen Chaudhary, 29 Jan 2021Jio has got privileges, it is government's favorite co... moreIs there an ounce of logic in your reply , to that guy's comment ?
Jio was able to achieve speeds of more than 1Gbps because they used proper 5G setup in collaboration with Qualcomm( https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/jio-partners-qualcomm-to-develop-5g-ran/78773306 ) and their own homegrown 5G tech.

Airtel on the other hand is using the existing 4G infrastructure with some software improvements, as pointed out by this article ( https://www.businessinsider.in/business/telecom/news/simply-put-airtel-says-all-it-now-needs-is-spectrum-to-deliver-5g-services-at-a-speed-of-up-to-900-mbps/articleshow/80511946.cms ), so they achieve lower speeds than Jio but their speeds of 600-700 Mbps is an impressive feat in itself and a welcome change.
So, Airtel is slower than Jio because of these reasons, not because TRAI is 'supressing' them. Just because your favourite party is not at the Centre, doesn't mean you'll come here and whine irrelevant nonsense, all the while spreading misinformation.

Blutbad-fuchsbau, 29 Jan 2021Reliance Jio already tested 5G a while back and was able to... moreJio has got privileges, it is government's favorite company, or we can Government is their favorite. Other operators are suppressed through TRAI.

Reliance Jio already tested 5G a while back and was able to get gigabit speeds in network testing. Airtel is just trying to turn the attention to themselves. No surprise here.

I don't want India to move on to 5G... I'm not sure environmental concerns in real life environment are given sufficient considerations.
Plus, I think speeds will now suffer on 4G, as this happened on 3G as well.

                  Very bad time...

You're not just saying this because you don't like China leading the 5G with 80% of user from all the world right?

OfficialTRider, 29 Jan 2021Not for long, Chinese are getting older, India have more th... moreA laughable and misleading comment
What do you think you can do with "younger population"? Satisfy the world's need for labour?
Firstly, Apple will not EXPORT "Made in India" iPhones. It is meant to surpass the import taxes levied by Government of India, which most manufacturers do. And it is supposed to be a backup, in case, something like Covid pandemic happens again.

Secondly, no American President would levy it's taxes on its own brands. So, American brands don't need to shift their production.

Lastly, both, Apple and Foxconn have invested double the amount in 2020 that they invested in 2019, in China.

As far as your obsession with "younger population" is considered, compare the per capita income of Indians and Chinese. The Chinese are at $11000 while Indians are somewhere close to $2,000.
                      The result? Consider these examples:
Huawei was no. 1 in smartphone sales, surpassing Samsung in June 2020. Considering the fact that Huawei overseas sales are negligible, one can have an idea of the size of Chinese market alone.
Even the heavy manufacturing industries like automobiles are just massive.
SAIC Motors have 26% market share in China. While Suzuki has 49% market share in India. Still, SAIC sold thrice the no. of vehicles sold by Suzuki.
