[deleted post]These guys are clueless man. They are buying into the paid PR article on how fbi couldn't crack the iPhone.

They actually did. It's just that they were asking Apple to help them officialy and comply.
They refused, fbi got it done anyway.

AnonD-804996, 29 Jan 2021While stuff like this is annoying from consumer perspective... moreA camera from a donor phone that also works doesn't need to bother the user at all with such notifications. If this is not against 3rd-party repair I'd say that someday Apple will give you a phone that cannot be repaired because every hardware were serialized and people would call it "feature". I am into pre-loved devices in fact I actively repair my own phone and this Apple's move isn't something that even I would consider an advantage. A camera that works can easily be tested even on second-hand phones, it isn't even a part that could compromise security. IDK what Apple is getting at here but what I already know was that they're actively but discreetly against the right to repair.

MeZoP, 29 Jan 2021Well you are kind of wrong. See there are many apple users ... moreYeah, the guy I was responding to is one of countless "Anonymous" who constantly poop on Apple here on GSMArena because they are salty and miserable. Android has massive, fundamental problems. And it's what I always complain about and compare to others, namely iOS. iOS has its own issues too, but they are often not really an issue. I mean, when I complain that 2 years of updates is just pathetic on Android, that's a legit criticism that affects everyone. Closed ecosystem everyone raves so much about when Apple is on a grill, is it really an issue? A lot of users prefer a tightly regulated ecosystem that is much safer by default and just works in a much more reliable way. Same for inability to install billion launchers. I've tried bunch of launchers and in the end always resorted to the stock one that came with the phone. I had widgets on Android, but were always buggy for whatever I wanted to use and the inability to have them perfectly aligned with icons drove me crazy. On iOS, maybe they are limited by android standards, but they are just so nice and all that I care about are stock and work perfectly (Weather, battery, calendar and stats from watch). I was tired of faux advanced customization on Android that always ended up in some sort of dumb problems. Maybe iOS is a bit limited in some regards, but it just works. I basically only reboot phone when there are updates. In this whole time I'd probably have to reset whole Android phone like 5 times by now. Whatever thing Apple is doing just works. And I like it. I like to fiddle with my Windows desktop, but I want my phone to just work.

Fragmentation!! Wow! Genius! Hacking is hard for a fragmented Android OS.. waaah i need to devise tons of exploits! Hey genius.. you know hackers understand the system right? A simple IF / ELSE will suffice, just as easy as a developer code for Android or iOS for that matter.

The fragmentation of updates in Android actually helps in protecting the user as it is difficult to design and exploit multiple vulnerabilities.

Would you be ok if you buy one second hand that's allegedly pristine, but is actually a frankenphone put together by some random nobody using questionable parts, camera that's not calibrated properly or a questionable cheap battery? And who will user then blame for poor performance? Apple of course, even though it was user that screwed it up. Apple doesn't want that. And neither would you most likely. This way you can instantly check if phone is really untouched inside. It's beneficial and damning at the same time, depending on which one matters to you at the given moment.

a lot of people saying iphone has better support for old device that get 5 years support but their os is suck like fast battery draining and this security... no different with android even ios get 5 years update its nothing.

What's with that camera notifications though? I mean Apple doesn't even sell or even make the camera modules available to 3rd parties so the only way would be getting parts from donor phones and now this? If they gotta implement this somehow, they should've given atleast selling the modules officially for the 3rd parties. So much for them "saving the enviroment" by removing the charger, now reusing parts is being prohibited. lol.

I guess you did not follow Linux Kernel updates at all. LOOK at all the vulnerability released. Anything open is open for vulnerability regardless of 1000 or 1000000 people working on it. So long as you understand the system, you can work around it.

                            So how to minimise this?
                            1. Keep the vulnerability as a secret, the less people who knows, the less the people who can exploit.
                            2. Fix it fast. Don't delay, then when you release the fix, then tell people of the vulnerability fix.
                            3. Closed system, people will not know much about the source code, so they have to reverse engineer.. try to understand the system.. giving them a hard time to exploit.

Linux kernel development involves thousands of people and large numbers of companies including Google and Facebook and overseen by the creator, Linus Torvalds, himself. iOS kernel development involves maybe a team of 10-20 people at Apple.
