I'm sure that Google had something to do with this decision and forced Xiaomi to stop allowing its Chinese version of Android bring pirated with GSM without Google making a dime from it or face consequences.

I think it is something need to claim:
1.in CN,only Xiaomi/Redmi's flagship(in short,those phone with Sn8XX chip since Mi8) have pre-load GMS.
Other Xiaomi phone need to download and install GMS by yourself before this happened.
2.Currently,if a Xiaomi phone(CN version) have international version too, like Redmi 9,can still install GMS by youself.Because they still have GMS authorize.
Those pre install GMS phone, like Mi10/11,are totally not influenced by this too.
3.Some Xiaomi phone which is CN only, like Redmi K30Ultra,10X/10X pro can not install GMS now because Xiaomi do not buy the GMS authorize for them.(Xiaomi do not buy the GMS authorize for some CN only phone due to only a few people in CN use GMS,side load GMS is illegal, but google not limit it until recently)
4.A MIUI PM claim they will buy the GMS authorize for K30Ultra soon,so it may regain support for GMS very soon
5.All internation version are not influenced

Anonymous, 03 Feb 2021I am aware of that but Android is still owned by Google.Google open sourced Android to widen adoption. It's not a coincidence Chinese phone vendors use Android. It's what they wanted to happen.

They should expect to have much lower sales doing this, alot of companies small and big import these from China to sell via eBay and other pleases to countries like the UK
Noone outside of China wants a mobile that is not either Android or IOS

Maybe that is why we always tend to see some Xiaomi phones coming to international countries outside China arrived quite a while after the phone is officially launched in China. Just look at the Mi 11 - it was officially launched on Dec/28/2020, but we only will get it on Feb 2021.

YS3G, 03 Feb 2021Just install a custom rom, miui chinese rom is very trouble... moreIf there is support for it, I see no problem with that. The problem with China-only phones is that pretty much no one uses it. If there are people who use it, it's not a lot.

MadMel, 03 Feb 2021Google is tied with US politics, being smart or independent... moreMore likely this is Xiaomi further restricting phones from being sold from 3rd party vendors. This change only affects Xiaomi phones that are China exclusive and have no international ROM. Ethusiats are the primary people that buy these phones through 3rd party vendors and that has always caused headaches for Xiaomi because if the phone breaks the buyer comes to Xiaomi looking for warranty but it's refused because Xiaomi has no idea what the middle man has done to the phone (ie. added vendor ROM, damaged it, etc.).
If a Xiaomi phone is sold in China and internationally, then the buyer would most likely get it from an official Xiaomi store or distributer rather than risk getting it from a 3rd party.

That's why you never buy the Chinese variant of phones especially when the international variant of the same phone is available in your country. Since they haven't been verified by Google, the GMS support is quite a mess in general.
