Caviar unveils the Origin concept - a Vertu-inspired phone that runs Android

04 February 2021
Caviar reworked the interface to support soft keys for an old-school experience. Also, this will start at $1,000, surprisingly cheap for a Caviar.

At this point, I am just waiting for Sailfish OS to support either Xperia XZ2 or XZ1, and to improve their software in areas like camera, and I'll gladly say goodbye to Android.

Losing Nokia along with Symbian are the worst sin Microsoft did in the last decade. They can Azure their ass all day long if they want, but they are never getting that stain off from them

Woohoo, 04 Feb 2021Blatant Vertu design ripoff, only inverted. From the looks... moreAt least Caviar mentioned that it was inspired by Vertu, meaning they credited the inspiration of the phone.

PleaseNo, 04 Feb 2021bruh, 1000$ is cheap compared to nowaday's price... Sa... moreIts cheap not for Smartphone, but for Caviar branding which by itself speaks luxury.
      That's what they meant.

Lyndino, 05 Feb 2021Isn't Symbian the cause of Nokia's loss of market... moreActually, Symbian did have a loyal fan following just like Apple's iOS... Means the owners were used to it, and didn't care much otherwise, but clearly, Symbian was closer to a PC than others ever could be (except for maybe Linux/ MeeGo).

Situation was such that without advertisements, Symbian phones used to sell in excess of 10 million. Nokia 808 Pureview proved to be a huge success, gathering over 25 million in sales. I too had one.
Privacy was very good on a Symbian, and it was only set for improvement had the Americans not sent Elop on a mission to destroy Nokia, and make USA the center of all digital information.

Hemedans, 05 Feb 2021Yes Nokia lost after discontinue Symbian, Symbian Grew f... moreWe try not to talk about Windows Phone's. lol.
But I will say that I liked the modular look of the Windows Phone OS, I've used that launcher randomly for years as it's quite unique... can't remember why I stopped.

Lyndino, 05 Feb 2021Isn't Symbian the cause of Nokia's loss of market... moreYes Nokia lost after discontinue Symbian,

Symbian Grew faster than ios and Android combined from 2007 to 2010, then Elop came and destroyed Everything.

From 2011 to 2013 windows phone managed only 4% marketshare.

Luigge, 04 Feb 2021I would like to see Symbian phones back again, maybe Nokia ... moreWhy not have a partition so you can load either Android or Symbian?
Seem's illogical for a company to make 500 phones for nostalgic reasons.

Hemedans, 04 Feb 2021It depend on what you want, but I rate Symbian even in 2021... moreIsn't Symbian the cause of Nokia's loss of market share?

I hope they'll put OLED on that precious phone. It's just not good for the eyes to see a cheap LCD being used in that.

Hemedans, 04 Feb 2021It depend on what you want, but I rate Symbian even in 2021... moreI would like to see Symbian phones back again, maybe Nokia should release another one with Symbian, something that is made for nostalgic people or something,

Or they could make a flagship phone but just sell like few units as the phone would not be able to sell very well and then maybe people would buy just to have...

I would like also an android phone with a keyboard like the Motorola (milestone?) I know that physical keyboard is another feature to be prone to fail, but would be cool maybe

From the looks of it, they couldn't even put an OLED display, this looks like them cheap TFTs.

bruh, 1000$ is cheap compared to nowaday's price... Sad time for smartphone consumer..

Anonymous, 04 Feb 2021Nokia does still make bar phones from back in the day, but ... moreIt depend on what you want, but I rate Symbian even in 2021 with custom ROm.

I have Nokia C5, I can do a lot, play games, browse internet, some social network like Facebook or Instagram are available online with browser, some mmorpg like Aoho are still alive with thousands of online players, much better call recorder etc.

Funny thing there are more apps developed for Symbian in recent years than Kai os.

I hope I will make enough money for this in 10 years

Android phone with a T9 keyboard? Now this is really intriguing. I remembered that Google had a similar vision before with a touchless Android.

Please increase the price Caviar. It should out premium iPhones. Please charge $10,000 starting price.
