Apple thinks in three years they are going to have a commercially viable fully autonomous vehicle? I'll believe it when I see it. Google/Waymo barely has a commercially useful autonomous vehicle after working on this for more than a decade.
People are so arrogant about how easy it will be to accomplish this (ahem, Musk, Uber). Only Google/Waymo has really shown any modesty and honesty about the difficulties involved.
I know Apple bought Drive.ai, who has already been working on this for a few years. But they've already made a lot of promises they haven't made good on, like most companies in this field. And their car seems to only work in highly controlled environments. So I'm not holding my breath.

After 6 mths, the driving will be slugglish due to lag. Everyday, the driver instead of driving or relaxing.. will have to endlessly tweak the car, the AC will turn off for unknown reasons, the car will reverse suddenly due to bugs. But the driver will say, ahh.. its ok.. very ok... because android makes tons of cars with different configurations.. so there bounds to be bugs here and there.. besides.. its cheaper.. very very cheap.. well worth the effort!
And when you call the car makers, they tell you, Buy a new car.. cheaper and easier then fixing your existing android car.
So you listen to the car makers... so you put your car up for sale.. so you have enough to buy your next android car.. BUT... the car couldn't sell!! Because no one wants the your old android car hahaaa.
