Apple doesn't do standard resolutions as much and it sounds like overkill, also if it's a competitive market Apple has the hardware to not shoot themselves in the foot. Imho

That $3000 price is for proffesionals who can afford it, not the average consumer.

Shady69, 05 Feb 2021its too small and useless, a 4k is still too small to even ... moreThere is even a site proving how much of a BS (what you write) is:

                    https://www.designcompaniesranked.com/resources/is-this-retina/

At 4k and 5 inches (typical size of a VR panel) , you need to stand 10cm away to not see the pixels. Guess where those panels are when wearing them... yeah closer than that. Even 4k is pixelated in VR!

8k is not merely a nice thing to have, it is a requirement. Current gen VR is trash mostly owed to the low res. 8k is minimum, and in fact 16k would be needed for people with good eyesight (like me) who can see the difference between 1080p and 1440p in tiny small phone screens held at an arms lenght.

Rdmkr, 05 Feb 2021apple is also going to have to develop the GPU capable of p... moreIt will prolly need less power than modern GPUs. The human eye resolves very little information when talking of single points. The way we have an understanding of the world is through slight movements of the eye. Meaning that you only have to render at 720p and render at 8k only at 2% percent of the screen or so. Then your eyes keeps collecting information, so you track it and change the res *only* where the eyes looks at.

If anything modern GPUs ate overpowered for that. Heck a PS4 gpu may be capable of rendering such a scene. So ... few pixels.

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2021This will easily beat Sony and Oculus I mean Occulus and HTC hardly made any steps forwards for 5 years now.

In a way glad that Apple gets in, they realize that anything below 4k seems fake if the screen is fricking glued on your eyes. Those 1440p (or so) headsets are nausea inducing most kt due to the low res.

Funny thing is that Samsung had a 4k oled panel fir VR use since 2015 already (were rumours that the development was almost complete). However the VR headsets in their infinite wisdommnever adopted it / remained the same sh*thnthey we back then... maybe a slightly bit better.

I am an Apple hater and it is weird to say "finally an adult on the space". VR thus far was developed by children it seems like. 10 years later we may finally get an adult and therefore true immersion. Time will tell...

Try to understand that these Apple AR/VR headset isn't meant for general public, just like hololens isn't.
