07 February 2021
We take a look at phones that used one or two AA or AAA batteries. Then we take a detour to look at other weird ways to power a phone.

When will we ever have solid state batteries for phones.

Its difficult to manufacture pouch cells in large scale for Automobiles, but should be easily for mobiles and laptops.

If they had double the energy density instead of 5000 mah batteries we could have 10000 mah batteries

Just play Metallica's "Battery" at max volume for the last charging method. Should be fully charged when the song ends.

Or buy a second hand HTC HD2, a fully capable modern smartphone, for as low as £15 on ebay, which has user swappable batteries, so you could also buy some spare batteries too, about £3 each,, then buy an AA battery power adaptor, also from ebay, about £5, they take an AA battery in a tube about the size of a big lipstick, and have a USB socket that can then power any device you need to that uses USB power. Then buy a pack of decent quality AA batteries,, you then have the ability to power up and run any device you need to, as well as a far more useful emergency phone, full browsers, ggps and maps, not too shabby cameras, etc etc.
You could possibly buy a camping power pack kit, with solar panel one side, led light panel on the side and instead of filling it with lithium batteries, fill it with AA non lithium batteries,a very handy device in an emergency,,the one I have, filled with lithiums, about 6000MAH,, SLOWLY charges ok even in UK winter light levels, also charges from any USB power source, kit costs about £10.
If your preping for an emergency, then the above bits are far more useful than a very limited basic phone,it will all fit into a small plastic sandwich box etc,if the HD2 is hacked properly,it can even run Microsoft os's upto XP,slowly, but it can do it,HD2 will run almost any known OS, except apple,it will run slowly, its only got a mark one 1ghz snapdragon, so limited chip power and only 1.5 gb of ram,but an ability that could be very handy in a longer emergency,if no lappy or pc available..
