Decades of capitalist outsourcing have funded and assisted in China’s progress. With singular focus, China may well surpass western technological development. I hope I’m no longer around should they at some point decide to expand their influence by open force. - citizen of a non-‘world power’

Both countries are untrustworthy. The Chinese government approves what comes in and goes out of China, so how can companies not be influenced by them? Both companies are propaganda machines, just like North Korea. Which country is the one who's hacking into private citizens accounts to steal credit card info, etc.? Not the USA. We know they do other things though. To act like the USA-China trade restrictions are all on the USA though is BS. The USA imports 3 times what China imports from the USA because China is also restrictive to the US. To deny this is an untruth. If China wasn't so dependent on their experts to the West, would China be as powerful and rich as they are now?

Any measures are just temporary throttle. Eventually Chinas capabilities will catchup with that of the West. And who knows - perhaps surpass it and add export restrictions to the West.

US. is a bit bully in their action, but China isn't innocent either. The way China treat foreign company by so called their 'strict guideline for security protection' is far worse than what US. is doing and violate WTO since they are part member. But hey, when you have money to buy UN. seat and vote which hold control of WTO, nobody is going to ask THAT question, is't?

Windows and its app has majority of the consumer markets, exceed 60%+ (Microsoft) - developer house with experience (none Chinese, as most don't even have agile or similar protocol in place, they similar use open-source claim as their own or acquisition well above 50% of the time ) - Java (Oracle), C, Python has stay near top for the past few years. If you look at popular C IDE/compilers a good percentage are originate from US. or US. based. Python original developer maybe Dutch, guess where he most worked? Google, Microsoft. Now, the last, which making all above spin the x86/64 environment, owned by Intel/AMD. Even if you going to take ARM, which is the next largest application base - belongs to nVidia.

If you going to break down to hardware manufacture chain, guess who's is capable of making CPU below 10nm? TSMC, not China, and Samsung, also not China. And in terms of military experience, the Chinese military scales no way near what US. has being. In fact, the most people they have killed, are it own citizens. So where's the dominate you're talking about?

“ensure that it is not supplying highly sensitive technology that can advance China’s military capabilities”, China probably already have far superior technology compared to USA, so it is USA that desperately needs Chinese technology to advance the US military capabilities!

The US pulled the same thing on Japan in 1987 when Japanese chips were completely dominating the world and France in 2013 when French industrial giant Alstom was merging with German Siemens. To maintain world hegemony, the US cannot allow foreign companies to overtake certain US industries. If India's software industry started to challenge Microsoft and Google, expect economic sanctions
