YUKI93, 19 Feb 2021Definitely not that Chinese knockoff latter. At this point,... moreI see.
Now that Poco is independent, with their completely crazy (well, "Mad") marketing, maybe they will be different too.
https://twitter.com/IndiaPOCO
For a change we need a European smartphone brand too, sadly "Nothing" though they acquired "Essential" and the founder was in the smartphone industry, he is also the guy who caused the removal of the 3.5mm Jack after making a poll asking if people want it and had massive amount of people voted they wanted to keep it, so even if "Nothing" were to start making smartphones, it might not be worth considering.
Meizu is another brand I see being different too, at the time when everyone tried to ditch bezels with the notch, they made the 16 series that had a slim bezel, and when the punch hole was everywhere and no one was considering it was actually still taking precious status bar space, and everyone made square camera island bump, they made the 17 which have the punch hole included with the battery icon and the camera layout is probably one of the best looking one, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring back the 3.5mm Jack with the 18 considering that.

AnonD-909757, 19 Feb 2021Do you mean LG/Sony/Motorola kind of niche, or Elephone/Doo... moreDefinitely not that Chinese knockoff latter. At this point, my eye only fixates on LG and Sony as they are just about the only established smartphone brands that dare to be different.

Player 1, 19 Feb 2021There's only so many places they can place the camera ... more"what do you want?"
No hole, like every other display in existence other than smartphones which are known for their totally awful market trends like the removal of the 3.5mm Jack that many still want and do use, 2Mp Macro and Depth camera that add nothing and that the vast majority don't want, use of optical rather than ultrasonic underdisplay FPS, camera bump over making the phone thicker as many asks for, curved edge display on half the high end and flagship despite the numerous cons, no advantages and many who don't want them.
I mean, c'mon, everyone should have picked the clue that all those things are wrong and the smartphone market/industry is heading on the opposite direction of what they should.
Literally it is one of the market with the biggest potential for diversity, and it "evolved" from one which had a good one and that even was the selling point against Apple, to one where there is almost no alternative than a single design with minor changes except for Sony and LG, and NO it ISN'T why they are failing, even if they made 100% trending phones they will still fail for many reasons despite them being excellent brands.
It isn't as if there are no alternatives :
Bezel, pop up camera, slider.
No front camera, which include :
Secondary screen on the back, flip up, just no front camera.
There is also underdisplay camera and notch, both of which I don't want.
Better than the notch, is how the iPhone X notch should have been in the first place, exactly as it is now but simply not allowing content to be displayed on the side and serving as a bezel that can display status icons, the implementation is only slightly different, but the result is night and day :

I'm surprised they're releasing a "neo" when the old one hasn't been released yet.

Anonymous, 18 Feb 2021But Mediatek chips don't get developer community support Yes they don't get the same level as support as Snapdragon chips.
I mean I don't care about custom ROMS but basics like Gcam should be available through the developer community.

I love how modern smartphones are so non-original and lacking any type of diversity or uniqueness, that it is hard to tell apart which models it is, in fact it is even hard to tell which brand made which phone.
Same punch hole, same 50% chances of a curved edge display on flagships, same top left camera stove, same general camera layout, same camera bump, same thickness, same lack of 3.5mm Jack.
It is like looking at what choices Apple lineup offer, as if there was only a couple of phones.
