What a load of crap! There is no mention of anything about 4G devices in the original Nikkei report. Huawei has made announcement a while ago that all the new smartphones released in 2021 will be 5G and 5G only. If Huawei ships 80 million smartphones in 2021, they will be 80 million 5G smartphones. If you add another 70-100 million 5G smartphones shipped by Honor, it is not that much of a "drop".
There is a shortage of SoCs for Huawei, but there is not shortage of any other 5G components.

Look I'm not a communist. But everything the usa did commercially under Trump was about keeping competition in its place. He discovered a little known Kennedy era cold war law that lets a president (unchecked!!) put tariffs on anything because "national security". Then proceeded to block everything from Chinese goods to European and Japanese goods. Huawei it's just a piece of the picture. Now you'll say something along the lines of "China does the same!!" ... yeah who cares. The USA is behaving like a big bully, and China is a bully too

Blocking technological advancement by preventing imports is a joke. Now Huawei (and many other tech firms for that matter) will mobilize all their resources to build new technologies and secure alternative supply chains that circumvent this and future bans.

Nokia from single customer like Apple got one time payment of 2B usd and ongoing royalties.
Lot of companies like Qualcomm, Nokia, Ericson etc earn more like Huawei, in short 90% of 5g Licence revenue are shared between three companies Nokia, Ericson and Qualcomm.
Huawei patents are just Quantity in numbers they don't have any technology which can stand up and made other companies to depend on them
