The most efficient inorganic LEDs are around 100 lumens per square mm. That's bright enough to burn retinas, cause instant pain, and degrade organic materials at close range. There'll be no more complaining about not being able to see the phone in sunlight.

Anonymous, 24 Feb 2021And what is the advantage of putting an LCD panel in front ... moreCompanies like nvidia don't have rework their ENTIRE gsync features
Gsync is very easy to do with only having to worry about changes in backlighting
OLED has massive massive complicated things to account for first of all OLED displays colors/images at different brightness
Next is savings on R&D and supply chain reworking
If a company already set up their plants for LCD mass production they can just reuse resources and save
Look at these advantages none of these are direct CUSTOMER advantages but let this be a reminder that new technology is a balance between CONSUMER and PRODUCER
Funny thing is consumers love to only consider image quality of TV technology and think that advantages of ECONOMICS are irrelevant

Nvidia's gsync with OLED will be a nightmare based on the nature of OLED one plan is to USE microled for backlight WITH an LCD layer on top

Anonymous, 24 Feb 2021„Mini-LED panels are like LCDs with more local dimming zone... moreWhat I also wanted to add is that I don‘t think there are any phones with local dimming actually. It‘s been common in TVs for years, and is getting more popular in monitors. There is 1 laptop I know that has been released last year with local dimming.

„Mini-LED panels are like LCDs with more local dimming zones than current panels – instead of a few dozen, they have a few hundred (or even thousand). They will still require a liquid crystal layer, however. Micro-LED drops all that and has emissive pixels instead, just like OLED. The major difference is that the micro-LEDs do not use Organic materials, which makes them brighter and more power efficient.“
Finally someone got it right. I could rip out my hairs if I read technical articles and the authors mess up these two terms.
Another big point is that microLED should eliminate (or at least be way less suspectible) to burn in because of their inorganic nature.

Your entire argument is : microled can't be used with LCD because extra thickness.. you can't be serious
Does thickness prevent prevent the invention of dual cell LCD??
Your link is meaningless I am waiting for a link that proves that MANUFACTURERS cannot chose to have a hybrid technology with microled as a backlight solution with an LCD layer on top
Why is this so hard for you to understand that the execution of the technology is up to the manufacturer???
Nvidia is one such in line to be going this direction if you want a video I will share it

For Mobile phone size smaller screens, OLEDs are doing well. I do not think mini leds will have an advantage for mobiles. However, Micro Leds panels definitely will be an improvement to Mobile Phones.

They might surpass passive OLED though.
