Anonymous, 24 Feb 2021Huawei ban has nothing to do with Apple. Nobody cares about... moreHas everything to do with it. Huawei were outstripping Apple in sales volume. Apple is the world's first trillion dollar company and this is something that America is very proud of. Funny how so many consumers globally still want Huawei phones despite all this nonsense about spyware. Total shite.

Why the camera does not have a screen! Wasn't the second generation camera to be unveiled under the screen?
It seems that the camera under the screen will never mature because it is not a good solution at all!
Using a 21: 9 aspect ratio, like Sony phones, seems to be a better choice because it drastically reduces the margins of the phone.

It was expected that the technology would improve and that it will continue to improve. Hopefully, this will put a stop to all those comments about how under-display cameras are a bad idea. Especially with the 3D scanner included too, notchless displays WITH secure face unlock are a very exciting proposition. Maybe the fruit-logo company will finally ditch that horrible notch that they have in all of their phones. It will only happen a loooong time after all Android phones are notchless, though.

Anonymous, 24 Feb 2021Huawei ban has nothing to do with Apple. Nobody cares about... moreApple couldn't compete with the superior periscope and night vision cameras of Huawei phones on the market if Huawei is not eliminated soon. And it cries to be saved, since its presence is beneficial to US. ...
Well, the rest is history.

Anonymous, 24 Feb 2021I doubt the bezels will be that big on the actual phone. It... moreWhich actually makes no sense since the purpose of the under display cam is to make a front full screen with no bezels so the front design is expected to be that. Only thing they can hide is the rear design (and how thick the chin is on the front)

Anonymous, 24 Feb 2021notch is cheaper
since apple love getting rid of things ... moreA smaller notch for this years iphone and the next. After that pop up camera for two years then hole punch for two years and only after that will apple go for under display camera.
If competition did not exist, apple would have done 5 years with each design.

Looks like ZTE is going to beat Apple at implementing faceID under the display. Apple will still have a stupid notch while everyone else will have the same faceID and an unblemished display.

I hope they have eliminated the chin on this device. Be true to the promised FULL SCREEN display. With a big chin it's still a failure. Keep up the under display tech.

I think this company is a joke. When there such big bazels, what's the point of under display camera? They can easily fit in those bazels. Foolish!

Anbesaw, 23 Feb 2021Huawei came with amazing periscope and night vision sensors... moreActually ZTE was the first one to deal with false allegations by the US. They were able to work out a deal. Now Huawei/Xiaomi are facing same allegations. Laughable stuff, really.

Exactly as I wrote on Android Authority :
See, that's the problem right here, as much as I love 3D face recognition based on structured light and that I want a phone with it...
There is the issue of underdisplay camera by itself which, regardless how much you improve the tech, will ALWAYS give bad quality, and it can't give any privacy advantages unlike a pop up would do, in fact by hiding the camera it gives a false sense of security which is worse than no security at all.
But the real issue about 3D face recognition is that while the underdisplay camera picture quality is already really poor, and no doubts the second gen will still be a HUGE letdown (lets face it, it won't ever reach a GOOD level, an "acceptable" maybe, but that's it), it is after AI did try to improve the quality as much as possible, which is why video taken by the selfie camera of the Axon 20 are extraordinarily awful.
But any face recognition, regardless if it is 2D camera based, 3D dual camera, 3D ToF, 3D Structured light or other, REQUIRE RAW quality to be as good as possible, and you can't just try to enhance it with AI as otherwise you literally change your face's appearance.
This mean underdisplay camera is the worse possible tech to implement any kind of face recognition.
A good old pop up would do much better for cheaper.
