Weekly poll: are the three Redmi K40 phones the kings of their price segments or not?

28 February 2021
The trio offers 120 Hz Super AMOLED displays, Snapdragon 800 chips and high-resolution cameras - not to mention aggressive pricing.

I thought that the vanilla Redmi K40 would be a good buy until I compared it with the Motorola Edge S. Just about the only two thing I would lose from the Xiaomi if I pick the Motorola is the 120Hz AMOLED screen and the 33W fast charging rate. But in the real world, the Motorola offers more value as it has stock AOSP UI, microSD card support, a front ultrawide camera, a headphone jack, a bigger battery, and USB-C 3.1 with video output support alongside Ready For Desktop Mode. As a practical all-rounder, it is a complete no brainer to pick the Motorola over the Xiaomi. If Motorola includes FM Radio support in the Edge S, it could easily be a solid replacement for the LG Velvet 5G.

As for the Pro and Pro+ variants, I have no interest with it.

Ugly, ugly punch hole selfie camera in an otherwise attractive package. What was Xiaomi thinking? No flagship phone of 2021 should have ugly punch hole selfie camera(s)! I'd take a perfect 100% hole free, all screen display anytime with 60Hz display than one with an ugly selfie camera hole despite it having a 120Hz, or even a 144Hz +++ display! Ugly, ugly, ugly!

Cameras suck. Yes if you're a performance freak, not otherwise.

RIFTY, 01 Mar 2021no pop up camera no deal. they just ruined the main distinc... moresame deal here for me. I rarely, or almost never take selfies. the FRONT camera is entirely useless for users like myself. Having an ugly, obnoxious punch-hole in the display is a HUGE deal breaker for me. If I could choose, I would just for-go the front camera entirely. I dont use it, i dont need it, but its creating a hole on my otherwise perfect phone display.

it kinda doesn't feel like an upgrade compared to the K30 Pro. But have an high-refresh rate AMOLED display now, and that's kinda cool. But that's basically all.

MIUI is what it is but even MIUI works better with out it (Google) at least that's my experience with K30 Pro, had a Mi Max long ago. While it can serve the purpose especially for gaming (regarding hardware) I certainly want something else for a daily steady driver (software) from the phone for now I settled down with Sony regarding that. Whose earlier when CM and costum ROMs had their peak regarding having clean secure software but unfortunately those days are also long gone and people generally get tired of doing it.

Well, Redmi and Xiaomi did release phones for a low price which didnt hold up in the real market later. Especially outside Asia their phones did see a massive bump in price when hitting the street. We talk 100-200€ more than first talked about. That's ridiculous and it makes xiaomi less attractive, since you already have to live with unwanted in-UI advertisement and data-leakage to china (that Xiaomi said to have worked on). I was a massive xiaomi fan back when the mi mix (1) was released. But Im all fed up with them already. They know how to regulate prices, but at what cost?

Flask alike one's with battery can be sized as smaller phone. I know only one (series) that resolved those problems that can be used with regular cables in exclusive player mode and can even slowly change the phone (Android only) but those are getting old today and performance isn't stellar (100 - 105 dB SINAD, UB/B 2/4 V).

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2021I think you are confusing phones here. I was talking about ... moreYep, so basically when the Redmi K40 article comes up. He says that the Realme X3 Superzoom is the best alternative out there. He said that it has good chip, cameras, and display for its price (400 euros). I jist couldn't agree and i said that even 200 euros phone like Poco X3 has all of those features minus the 855 and periscope zoom, and even X3 Superzoom cuts a lot of corners. I said that even Poco M3 has stereo speakers, bright display, better battery. And he keep disagreeing. Such a heavy Realme fanboy

Also, if you do need a little more quality just go for the Poco X3 NFC. It cost around 50-60EUR more, but is better in all departments. Of course, even in this case, you can't except ground breaking speaker or display quality. But still, we are talking about a 200EUR phone.
200EUR phones from Samsung, Sony, Motorola or Nokia are far worse.

If more heat and power is drawn while the difference in performance is only 10%, what's the point? Even S21, Vivo, Mi 11 throttles easily with the SD 888. All 5nm chips are phrone to throttling except Kirin 9000. And the most efficient 5nm is A14 bionic. While the failures are 888 and EXYNOS 2100

No headphone jack - no buy. How the heck do they get certified with "high res audio" if there is no analog audio output via 3.5mm jack? Heck, I'd be fine with 2.5mm jack! If size is an issue, use the smaller variant!
