Mainly on their apps that use sync or their affiliated apps that does data collection. You can always opt not to use their stock apps like File Manager, Gallery, Music, etc. Each will ask you for your agreement/authorization. Each of those can be easily ignored and has Google alternative if that's what you prefer. You can even opt not to use a Xiaomi account if you don't want to and for power user, you can just debloat it, remove most of the stock apps without major issues on functionality.

                    If you're talking about not trusting something that you don't know about other things they collect then there's no point considering their device. If you buy a device based on that judgement then you'll just end-up not owning any smartphone at all. lol.

                              1_ no ads on flagships
                              2_ no ads on MIUI EU
                              3_ all ads can be disabled
                              4_ you're probably not having a Xiaomi phone if you had one you would know how MIUI 11 & 12 are smooth and based on don't kill my apps website one ui is killing apps harshly
                              Not any Chinese ui

                                  I would imagine it's a sense of false security where they let you disable something simple but can't stop the more sensitive info being harvested.
                                  Plus EMUI is garbage.

Just look it up on YouTube there's loads of folks to show you how to do it. Honestly don't know why folks freak out about it. I did it on my Poco X3 NFC and haven't seen a single ad since.
