Anonymous, 16 Sep 2012actually i have unlock the bootloader rooted and lock unro... moreMotorola Isn't the one requiring locked bootloader, the carriers are. The reason are many, sure custom ROMs gets more tricky, and even without open bootloader one can still root and overclock which shortens the life expectency drastically, when it starts to go south just un-root etc. This makes it difficult for the hardware manufacturer to give a warranty for. You can fry it, without making any physical damage. Carriers doesn't accept it either. Simple root and no warranty.
Point is even though many here thinks everyone cares about rooting and custom roms, this is something for a very select few in the total market. Better to have developer phones for said indivduals.
As mentioned above, depending on warranty terms, rooting alone voids warranty. Even not rooting, but flashing to different ROM voids warranty, even though it's a official ROM.

Anonymous, 16 Sep 2012Actually you cant have them both.Once you root your phone y... moreactually i have unlock the bootloader rooted and lock unroot back to stock many times in Samsung phone without a problem, you do no harm to a phone by rooting and unlocking the bootloader, when a company takes a step like this one selling you a ''developer phone'' with no warranty, they putting their abilities to test, meaning we are not sure if our phone is able to take bootloader unlock procedures because our product are not that great and you device might brick.

Yawns...ok already come on with that beast of a phone the DROID RAZR MAXX HD! Motorola really have out done themselves with these new razrs , the build quality is unreal !!! Im using the original DROID RAZR now with 16GB internal memory and a 64GB sdxc card , and with Motorola increasing the internal memory on the DROID RAZR MAXX HD to 32GB is a real selling point. To my knowledge this will be the highest available storage on a phone. As far as the OS goes , the new razr line comes with the latest OS out of box.

Guys help me to understand thigs correctly: Motorola has locked bootloaders and wants you to buy unlocked "dev" editions for the full price. Additionally you lose you warranty.
While...
Other companies like Samsung don't have problems with releasing phones with unlocked bootloaders, you don't have to buy dev editions, you don't lose your warranty. Am I getting it right?

So what does that mean? There will be a few devices out there with unlockable bootloader? What is the benefit for all others who will not be able to install one of the inovative roms created on a handful devices? And how do you want to create or at least support such a huge development community that we have currently with Samsung by going this way?

Motorola should get that heavy price tag out of their mind, just because they are gonna do what's already a part of android users, when companies like Samsung even support rooting to an extent, do u remember they donated some S2 to the cyanogen community. so Motorola wake up. customizing is the fun of android.
