Kuo: Apple's VR/AR headset to launch as soon as next year, will be much cheaper than expected

08 March 2021
Early reports claimed that it will cost $3,000, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the initial version will cost around the same as an iPhone Pro - $1,000.

AR is useless / will never find reliable use in anything other than niches.

VR *is* the future but it has been plagued by remarkable issues. Low res still, high retention still (nausea inducing), the compute is not there to create real time rendering on the required resolution, relatively low refresh rate (you need 200+ Hz so that to not break the immersion) and of course the elephant in the room, you cannot properly move in those (VR) environments.

We lack a VR friendly locomotion system. Many have been tried, all fail in some fundamental way, so year with proper computer machine interaction (the equivalent of a mouse/controller) the medium is dead in the water.

Once again Apple seems to lack direction and tries another tech that is not technologically ready (before it, they had tried the smart watch which was at the time at least 10 to 15 years away from being technically useful, no wonder it ended up a flop)...

VR headsets are still very expensive but, if I would be spending $1K, I would spend it to sony.it can give everything apple headset can offer plus an unmatched gaming experience.

In my opinion, regarding the experience since early days of Apple as a whole and also iPhone evolution,

Any final product available in market is what Apple is working and developing, others are absolute rumors as Apple still struggling with its car platform to offer. Many recently make fun of Reuters, which recently involved its tech headline for Apple's negotiation with companies and the day after, rejection by both car manufacturers and Apple itself. Too many bubble to say that Apple is beyond Phone. They are not. When HoloLens and VR headsets caught eyes and attention (Worth to invest or not) apple said something about AR/VR which is the interpretation of Microsoft's MR.

Late to the game again. VR is in a decline already, I guess it will finally be popular among apple fans.

If that's gonna be a good FACE SHIELD. I would go and buy it.

Lol who need that. Maybe Mark Zuckerberg will
