Anonymous, 10 Mar 2021Ironically HMD has the slowest adoption rate for this version Apparently because of the tons of issues of Android 11 in Pixel phones

      This graph is terrible. Smh

Not quite surprised. Vivo slapped us with Android 11 when we were asking for an Android 10 update 😂

You can also compare with P30 Huawei if you want.
Btw, Sony does make good terminals. But are not for regular user...
IPhone sell higher prices terminals because they can. And because many of the buyers don't care how much they pay, because they Have to own the newest terminal...
Im pretty much sure that the company main interest are the big sales...

Maybe out of topic but, the next tech breakthrough that we should be looking forward to is new battery tech. This is what will propel everything, this is what's holding everything back.

HAVEaNICEday, 10 Mar 2021The image is right, I opened the chart from the source link... moreIt might suggest that the Android version number for the past few years is just and only that - a number without deeper meaning. :D
Poor jokes aside - to me, the botched graph is just another example that as we live faster and faster, we just don't pay enough attention (be it on purpose or due to lack of time) to do things properly. Just more things, often quite crappy. :( Maybe our future AI overlord could make us take a minute and write down 10 small joys every single day :P

Lol, I had my new phone for a week now. And I didn't even know I have Android 11 on it.
But still, this are good news. Almost 60% of market share is Android 10 + 11.

                    Anonym, 10 Mar 2021That's a really good (and long) analysis. However, I w... more+1 I agree.
That is why I actually prefer Apple's leadership because they are focused on converting in to a Services economy instead of Manufacturing economy. I disagree with many practices they do, but now I realise, the reason they gradually doubled the price of an iPhone was to dis-courage people from buying a new iPhone (good). They want people to KEEP their old iPhones for longer duration (good). That requires a more Optimised Device and rolling out updates for longer lifetime (good). They want to pressure people to use the many revenues and Services they have available (bad).

Hypothetically, if they secure 100% subscription from all users, and that amount is substantial.... then they could literally destroy competition by releasing iPhones AT-COST similar to what Sony/MS is doing with consoles. That's smart business, though as a consumer I am not for it.

Shifting the topic back to Android, the Manufacturing economy was necessary in the early days. It's because we had huge upgrades in the basics: performance, display, camera, battery life, and features. Think back to Android phones from 2009 to 2014, in that 5-year period we got huge improvements. No-one would want to have a "long life" phone, since they got Obsolete fairly quickly anyway. It made sense to upgrade every 6-months, or every year, or almost every 2-years. Compare a HTC Nexus One to the Samsung Note 4, hilarious. Now? Upgrades are far less impactful and far less common, we're hitting the point of diminishing returns. Look at phones from 2016 to 2021. Now keeping phones for over 3-years doesn't feel that bad. Just compare a Samsung S7+ to a modern phone like the Sony Xperia 5.2, well the old Samsung suddenly doesn't feel that bad in terms of features, display, camera, speed, battery. In other words, Android as a Platform (both Google and OEMs) needed to shift back during the Android 5.1 MAJOR Milestone, shift from a Manufacturing economy to a Services economy. That hasn't happened, its overdue but never "too late".

Kangal, 09 Mar 2021This is NOT a technical problem, this is a policy problem. ... moreThat's a really good (and long) analysis. However, I will dare to add another dimension: the fundamentals of this problem is that consumers buy disposable phones and are ok with it. The market is flooded with new devices every few months. In itself, that wouldn't be so bad if manufacturers continued supporting the previous models -- but they don't, and that has severe consequences in many dimensions, most notably the environment.

The keyword is "manufacturers". Unlike a services economy, a manufacturing economy depends on manufacturing things. Disposable phones are great for manufacturing economies, while well-supported phones depend on selling other services and competition to keep the services economy alive. The big boom in smartphone sales comes from manufacturing countries hence, in their own self-interest, disposable phones rule most of the world -- if manufacturing slows down, their economy gets real bad really fast. In turn, a services economy is not that feasible in Android, as Google is mostly the single stakeholder that profits from service sales. Apple is the prime example of good support thanks to their services economy, but the trade off is that (outside of branding and segment positioning) hardware gets a lot more expensive when that is not the primary revenue stream. Yet, somehow, Android manufacturers are managing to combine the worst of both worlds with the new pricing -- but now I am digressing.

Xiaomi phones that I had in the past (Redmi Note 8 Pro and Mi 8 SE) have this small problems after software updates.
