Chrome 90 will add media controls to the shelf next to the phone hub and nearby share

uk7866, 10 Mar 2021Rather stick with Windows 10..The same for me. I can't really see the point of having a Chromebook when Android smartphones running Android 10 or higher and has USB3 video output support can run Desktop Mode and the smartphone hardware is miles faster than an entry-level or a midrange or even a premium-priced Chromebook. Even an LG Velvet 5G with an upper midrange SD 765G chipset can run Dekstop Mode without a hitch.

AngryLithuanian, 10 Mar 2021My experience with ChromeOS is completely different from yo... moreExactly. I tried cheap chromebooks in the past. And even thou performance wise are better than cheap windows 10 laptops, they still cut some things to reach that price level. They don't have touchscreen (which for chromebooks is very appreciated), they have really bad displays (with low resolutions) and have bad speakers.
That's why I bought couple of months ago an Acer Chromebook Spin 713. Even thou it was quite expensive, is very good. And it works almost perfectly, performance wise. Also, I will get software updates until 2028.
I had the opportunity to buy a Samsung S7 tablet + keyboard at the same price. I choose the chromebook in the end and I am not disappointed.
Chromebooks have come a long way in the last 2-3 years. And it shows in the global market share too. For people looking for alternatives to Windows 10, Chrome OS is better than Mac OS, imo.

There's no reason at all to use that utter trash browser on this day and age.

Lyndino, 10 Mar 2021I don't get why Chrome is such a hot topic still. Yeah... moreMy experience with ChromeOS is completely different from yours.

I have an M-series processor/4GB RAM config.(asus) for about a year and it works as it should. Just updated it to v89 and it's as smooth as it ever was. As you said, maybe it's because you've tried cheap chromebooks but mine wasn't/isn't that expensive either(399).

performance is the least of my concerns despite having an old laptop with "only" 4GB ram

one of the reasons I stay with chrome is extensions and also the fact its ubiquitous and only a few institutes or organizations use anything other than chrome and google. (kinda same situation going on with google drive and google workspace vs onedrive and MS applications)

Microsoft Bing is a rubbish search engine microsoft edge takes you too the edge and explorer a little better. Firefox forget it used that years old kept crashing during normal use and not a peak time for internet use

I don't get why Chrome is such a hot topic still. Yeah it was fast when it first came out that had no extensions built in and needed to be added later for certain websites. Now it's a crazy memory hog that slows everything down that has less than 16gb ram. The AdBlock extension in Chrome doesn't even stop ads.
As for Chrome OS, I've tried a few chromebooks from various brands and maybe because I used devices that were $299 or less they were all junk. I just don't understand the hype behind these.
Windows and Firefox all the way.
