Perception matters.
How so ever specs are provided, People will still choose the likes of Apple, Samsung, Huawei.
Xiaomi is notorious for intentionally reducing performance as in the case of Redmi note 8 pro,Poco X3. Though not so much in the flagship criterion .Still SD 888 performed worse than AD 865.

But in large cities in China a very small proportion of working professionals will choose Xiaomi over Huawei or Apple. Walk into an office building in Shanghai and basically it's nearly all Apple and Huawei phones. Many consumers still care more about brand image than raw specs and bang for your buck and Xiaomi will take time to be accepted as a 'high-end brand' in China. In any case it doesn't really matter as there will be way more demand than supply for this phone. Huawei will have to exit the high end smartphone business soon if there is no change in the current restrictions.

Huawei really disappointed me in 2020. I can forgo GMS if it means i am using an superior phone. Mate 40 Pro is garbage at its cameras, no OIS, video is not stable, night mode trash, blurry night photos, no ultrawide lens, only 90hz, screen quality not good as Samsung/Oneplus/Iphone, and it is priced at €1100, which is the same price as Note 20 Ultra. At China, Huawei phones are easily killed by Xiaomi a phones. Mate 40 Pro in China is a joke when compared to Mi 10 Ultra. Mi 10 Ultra has better specs and experience by a whole lot cheaper
