Nokia went from a No1 company in fones to a has been with HMD after selling to monopolistic company Microsoft. Now they trying to make money like Qualcomm by selling patents on technology already invented but never patented. Just like Qualcomm gets its ideas from its customers it's sells its chips to. HMD brings nothing new the way old Nokia did. Just bunch generic Android phones.

I doubt Damian and others even had the power to stop Elop, even though I'm sure they tried their level best.

                >Never will happen. Nokia is dead.

You completely misunderstand the article. ** This is not about phones. **

This is about mobile network infrastructure. The towers and what is behind them.

Nokia is one of the big 4 vendors of mobile networks. They are dominating on this market. Samsung is not even a little pea on that market. That is why Samsung need to license technology from Nokia.

YUKI93, 12 Mar 2021I do agree with you. At one point, the 2013 Nokia Lumia 520... morei had the 520 and well i still have it as a backup phone when ever something happens to my main phone i use it. Perfect size phone that 520. Now it had 4 inch screen but a lot of bezel. So it should fit in something between 5 inch to 5.5 inch screen to be bezel less and still be around the size of 119.9 x 64 x 9.9 mm Well i would not mind even if it be like 12mm thick just so it have something 3000mAh battery in and single camera in the rear that dont have bump.

that would be the perfect phone for me if something would only do it today that would cost under 200 euro and have decent hardware like most of the xiaomi phones have in price range of up to 200 euro

At one point, the 2013 Nokia Lumia 520 was the most popular Windows Phone model for three years*, so the potential of making Windows Phone a viable third mobile OS is really high. If Microsoft get their act together and keep refining the mobile OS, it won't die.

beep bop boop, 11 Mar 2021why? what did Elop do?He blatantly made it so that Nokia ended up so f-ed up they could only be saved if they sold their phone division to Microsoft, ended support for the last Symbian phones prematurely in a bid to coerce upgrading, and made sure alternative OSes like AOSP Android or MeeGo were put down.

As much as i hate Elop, i think there is something wrong in Nokia Management. Marco, Jo, and Damian are the key to Nokia's successful smartphones. Yet when the storm was coming and Elop was sent in, they just sit down like nothing happened. I bet, they didn't see the whole plan is to sell out Nokia. So they just say yes to everything.

Even with Windows Phone, Nokia managed to sell 11million Lumias. That's A LOT. Many apps start coming to WP. Yet i geuss MS be like "fcck it elop, we don't care. We want Nokia".

And that's when everything goes down. MS should have never been buying Nokia. WP could be alive and Nokia could still on the smartphone market if not the number one spot.

Anonymous, 11 Mar 2021I really miss this unbelievably innovative NOKIA... :(It the USERS the believed and ride on what Apple/Jobs had to sell at the time. So really, nobody can blame it on the vendor, as it is the user that dedicated the market.

I had no problem with both captive and resistive touchscreen's - yet Apple convincingly made many user challenge it, despite both had it pro and cons.
I had zero problem with Symbian series 60 any version and UIQ2.0 was plenty productive and innovative on its own, yet many bought on what Apple/Jobs was selling and Android followed - and rest was history.

Users were challenging Nokia left and right on MANY things that even Android and Apple did not perfect at the time - multi-tasking (Apple didn't had any initially and through few gen); landscape home (Android officially stopped at one stage and Apple....); Exchange mail support, Nokia has OVI Sync later on that was better implemented than both Apple and Android, but it was nearly over than. Android did not had that much fluid of UI operation for good amount of device at the time and Windows Mobile was much worse, yet a LOT of people criticize Nokia for it. Camera was in my pov, a really downside for most models at the time, until the N8 and 808 beast the followed.

And I really appreciate when Nokia announce OVI Map (at the time) become subscription free. It changed the whole GPS/Navigation landscape - Garmin and Tomtom had to change their models, and it later on Google came up with now the Google Maps. OVI Map allowed freely of updating map data allow with any country/city of their own choice. Yet, very few people appreciate it.

I held on N8 as my daily drive all the way till when Galaxy S4 was just out, and S3 was dirt cheap with many Nokia phones before that. So, when most users were like ah, I miss Nokia, I would just go - meh, your own fault.

All Android and FLOSS fans must be please to know that near all Android vendor had to pay something like US$2 per device to Microsoft for a patent at one stage - FAT32.

I guess the exclusion of have a SD-card slot will spare from the vendor that $2 per device.
