Believe it or not, but the lack of fragmentation is the reason why exploit are easier to design for iPhones.....making these devices more vulnerable.

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2021It depends, if someone still have the same kind of battery ... moreMost local shops in my country have any battery you can ask for.
If they don't have it for some reason, procuring it won't take more than a day.

You must be living in US or some other place where basic repair parts aren't available for most brands except Samsung and Apple.

i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 14 Mar 2021It's such an old phone, obviously the battery must hav... moreIt was a 3 year old battery, I'd change it twice in its life.
It went bad suddenly, like, 3 days ago it was ok, and then its screen used to fade suddenly as if something heavy happened... sort of suspicious stuff. Camera used to fade it heavy and it used to shut down. When I restart, 30% battery was gone.

Somehow, I think there was more to it than just battery life expiry... but its still lying with me. I'll ry a battery change anyhow...

i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 13 Mar 2021Name one person who was affected by having out of date secu... moreSame here. I still have a Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo from 2014, running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, still usable besides the weakened battery and some lag (granted, the specs weren't exactly stellar back in 2014 either, let alone now). But it's very much fine.

I also have Oppo A37 from 2016, with Android L, never been updated (still being used by dad, he doesn't know much about tech) and still going fine. No issues

So I agree, updates are indeed overrated. We don't use online banking or the like though.

Good thing is that it is easy and cheap to replace them.

i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 13 Mar 2021Name one person who was affected by having out of date secu... moreExactly. I kept Redmi 2 Prime with Android K till 2021 for all my regular uses.

Nothing happened. Suddenly, its battery started going terribly and it used to fade even on starting the camera. And a lot of other problems associated with this.
Till date, I suspect Google/ Mi has more to do with it, than any hacker or so, because it was like, the company didn't want me to use it.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2021Macro seems to to be a gimmick Yeah, a zoom camera is far more useful.

People get explo¡ted all the time, all the while having up to date phones with latest security updates.

None of those things you mentioned have anything to do with latest security updates. Someone using the banking app for payment can be easily compromised while having the latest security updates.

The end user is more of a factor when it comes to security on a smartphone or a PC.
                              Latest security updates are overrated.

Wha... moreHey kid, smartphones are not just something to post a dumb selfie on facebook or play fortnite , people start relying their smartphone to also do adult stuff like remote banking, working in BYOD environment ,moving money, paying etc smartphones are brimming with personal and sensitive data, like banc account numbers, PINs password .
You don't have to be a "CIA guy" to understand the importance of minimizing the exploits and vulnerabilities that may be used to access sensitive data , we have already plenty of rogue apps and phishing as it is.
