Snapdragon SC7295 in the works, a mid-range chip for ARM laptops based on the S775

16 March 2021
Fabbed on a 5 nm process and packing an integrated 5G modem, this will be featured in always on, always connected laptops.

This would be good for an affordable Windows 10 ARM tablet.

potato4k, 17 Mar 2021Intel chips are fine until it heats up and gobbles battery.... moreThat could be true, about battery life. But AMD doesn't do better while Apple new M1 looks much better. But about brute power the 11th generation is really good, and in my (thin laptop, so I guess most will be the same) almost doesn't fall under prolongued heavy loads. And the integrated graphic card is very very good, for what it is.

My point being: while I agree that Intel has to get better, the 11th generation is not as bad as many people want to make others believe.

Excited to see more ARM based Win10 becoming available, but hope to see these in SBC (Raspberry Pi) form factors instead of just laptops. Very low TDP "Desktop Replacement" that can fit in ones pocket will be the computer for the masses. Win10, Linux, Android, PinnOS.

It's not about just performance, it's also about power consumption, which is more important in the world of laptops. I have never seen Intel laptops lasting more than 3 to 5 hours in actual real life usage.

SigmaR, 17 Mar 2021Actually I have intel i7 1185g7 on my new laptop, and it... moreSince Ryzen crushed Intel Core in 2017, Intel had upped their Core series' performance quite significant, even introduced the new i9, but it was too late.
Unfortunately, with the introduction of i9 series, Intel also actually downgraded i7 performance, to not cannibalize the more expensive i9; making it less and less 'appealing' for power user, which uses their computer not only for work, but gaming too.

Up to now, Intel HD & Iris IGP are trash compared to Radeon IGP; before 2017, Intel still lead the Processor war because AMD A-series & Phenom CPU are trash, people consider buying AMD only for gaming / multimedia, but with the Introduction of Ryzen, millions moved to AMD, since they are cheaper & have better overall CPU & GPU prowess.

In short, Why paying more when u get less (read: inferior performance)?
This not only applies to Intel; it's especially fit M1 Mac's case!

Ryzen's x86-64 are still relevant in computer's world thanks to their expertise in making A series APU which is low-power, decade long Radeon's superior IGP, & 7nm TSMC fabrication, Ryzen should be able to trade blows with M1 & still come out as winner, since MILLIONS of software for x86-64 are not going to be ported to ARM anytime soon, combined with the 99% commercial games support Windows, which run flawlessly on Ryzen, M1 & its successors are still going to be a niche market; no matter how powerful M1 CPU is, when most vital apps supports only x86, it's doomed to have tiny market share, not to mention M1 atm only supports 'cloud gaming' which is still questionable of its sustainability till today (not to mention, the 'fate' of the game u 'owned' when the company closed down)

In short, till now, M1 is still a 'paper tiger'; impressive on paper, but severely lack in real-world application

AMD doesn't need to hop onto the ARM architecture to become a competitor. AMD needs to continue on its trajectory on boosting the thermal efficiency of its Ryzen chips, and produce Foveros-like chips for the ultraportable market and tablets.

Intel has failed miserably, and it's only saving grace is that the former CTO of Intel is now its CEO. That said, Pat Gelsinger cannot perform miracles and Intel faces numerous challenges before it can even begin to reverse its decade-long corporate laziness in innovation.

Shanti Dope, 16 Mar 2021Nahh, AMD just needs to hop on to making ARM-based Ryzen CP... morebut I thought nothing stands a chance against the M1, if the SD8cx is less than half the performance EMULATING windows, they have a lot of work to do, especially optimizing windows then right?

Nahh, AMD just needs to hop on to making ARM-based Ryzen CPUs to have a compelling competitor to Apple's M series CPUs. Their CPU performances are the only ones that can stand a chance against the M1. They just need to further improve their single core performance by adopting the same ARM CPU architechture used on mobile CPUs, then they could take over Qualcomm as the main supplier of CPUs for ARM-based laptops.

You know that Qualcomm simply can't compete in laptop CPUs when the SD8cx inside the Microsoft Surface has less than half the performance of the M1 when it's emulating Windows.
Take note: EMULATING. It's not even the native OS that it was optimized to work in.

"Qualcomm claims its chip is both faster than that i5 and more power efficient to boot"

Yeah no. Efficient probably, faster? Noup.

                              No, not for me

My Dreams came true thank you Unlimited Buddha’s!

I've yet to see the existence of a Snapdragon 7c powered laptop and now there's already a successor. This chipset would have great value if it appeared in Windows ARM laptops, seeing how crazy expensive Snapdragon 8cx laptops are.

I can't wait for more Chromebooks to adapt to this. I think the Snapdragon SoCs will handle better on Chrome OS than Windows 10. I'm still looking forward to Windows 10X as well.

I can't wait to get this in a Chrome OS device like the Chromebook Duet.
