ASUS separated the battery cells so the motherboard is right in the middle for the cooling fan accessory.

I don't mind bending as never had issues with it, however broken display is almost yearly occurrence forced me to use ugly phone condoms. But overall I don't see reason to buy this phone apart for having no hole in display. That said I don't see reason to buy any phone in this generation of snapdragon so far.

"There's simply no internal structural reinforcement ridge, the phone has only the frame to depend on."

I really cannot imagine seeing the ROG Phone 5 accidentally dropped. At this point, I even doubt if a rugged or armour phone case can protect the phone when dropped.

Samath N8 808 owner, 20 Mar 2021and why might you mention it here?he or she might watched the video as i did...
and xperia was mentioned while zach is doing the teardown on this phone...
zach just compared the cooling system, where xperia pro is better (than that of rog 5) yet it is not marketed as a "gaming phone"...
thus the commenter pointed out why it is logical for sony to put such better cooling system...

btw, on the last part of the video, the implication of that "bending" is that users should be aware that it needs care more than other phones - putting it on back packets spells danger... leaving it on sofa or bed... an advice that might be not for everyone, but certainly for some like me... ha ha... placing it on sofa, forgot it is there until i sit on it...

This really is terrible . A phone that measures up to all flagships seem to have this structural problem. People will say you aren't doing to bend your phone or sit on it why worry. But come on what if it happens. For a phone costing minimum 1k USD I would have expected better

I hate them for making ROG2 and ROG3 seem obsolete.
I feel bad for ROG 3 buyers they were sh@t on for shelling out $1k and asus released new ones just after, under 8 months.

As for gaming laptops, I think it's normal since they're specially made for that. High-performance processor and graphics card, high refresh rate display, and fans to avoid overheating. No comments for 'gaming' phones, chairs, and other equipment tho. They're just a gimmick.

I’m sorry but this is a fail, no other way to put it.

I’ll be the first to admit I roll my eyes whenever I see the word ‘gaming’ in front of anything that isn’t console, and tend to chuckle when I see those sat in their gaming chairs, playing their gaming rigs on their gaming desks, using their gaming keyboard and mouse, sipping from their gaming mugs, whilst their gaming curtains flutter in the breeze.

If you are going to build a gaming-phone though, given the increased tension, stress and motion said device is likely to experience during its use, then some thought to structural integrity should be expected.

I think it should not affect the buyer's opinion. Practically no one is forced to bend their phones in normal course of life.
I'm not in market for a gaming phone, I'm more into audio since Nokia N91 days, but if I had to get one, this wouldn't have been a reason to reject a phone.

Of course, I'd guessed this reason way before this video. Obviously, with 2 batteries on each end, you're going to get a gap.
