OnePlus 9 series: what to expect

22 March 2021
The company has been especially vocal with the teasers this year, so there's plenty we already know for certain (there is some guesswork involved too).

The 9R, if it is being teased as a gaming phone, just cannot have a sd 690.
In India, it is also teased as to be 'affordable'
So my gues would be that it will come with a year old chipset (sd 865) or an overclocked version of it (870)
That might keep the prices reasonable while letting us game on it
Oh well, we'll find out in a few hours

Guess I'll focus on today's test till then lol

QhyQhy, 23 Mar 2021The Oneplus 9 will not share the IMX789 of the 9 Pro but re... moreThat sensor is good and a huge upgrade over the IMX 586 that was used 2 years in a row.

The macro shots are not of the same image: the wider shot covers the top of some water-sprinkled leafs, the macro looks like the back-lit underside of a leaf.

Hasselblad co-branding has some ring to it; although to me, smartphone tiny sensor and medium format fame are almost diametrical.

Still looking for a replacement for my S7Edge Duos: At launch, that was almost everything I wanted from a phone: curved, high resolution screen, gold metal look, expandable memory, headphone jack, one of the best cameras of its time, and plain gorgeous design.

I wonder why manufacturers no longer announce whether their phones allow dual SIM card slots...

What are we waiting for? A phone as big as a brick, too expensive, with a curved screen that will be a nuisance, with the screen technology of some Oneplus in the black crush issue, and with the Hasselblad label that all it does is print a layer on a lens of a Sony sensor. Nothing more than that.

The Oneplus 9 will not share the IMX789 of the 9 Pro but remain with the same sensor as the 8 Pro (not so bad)

or kids here that think they are experts in tech, who have some rich parents too.

i use those zoom telephotos too, but i honestly prefer ultrawides more.

Oneplus needs to use a newer telephoto lens

I had it for about 2 days before I returned it to Samsung. Camera was average at best, whole phone was an awkward to hold brick. Paid £1.2k for it and it was a complete waste of money. Thankfully Samsung are very good with returns.

Sure it had 100x zoom with its periscope lens but who is ever going to zoom in that much? Nobody.

I'm totally surprised that Gsmarena says both phones will have IMX 789 sensor. Is that confirmed or an educated guess because what OnePlus could be implying with 9-series is both the pro versions.

                            What I'm expecting

                            To be disappointed 🤣🤣

AZ, 22 Mar 2021What is the obsession with periscope lenses? In 20 years... moreSpeak for yourself. "99% of people like myself open the camera app and take the pic, no messing around with zoom" got any actual sources to back that up, pal? Yeah... That's what I thought.
If your phone is a garbo phone with pathetic 2x zoom, or no zoom lens at all, then no wonder you don't want to mess around with it. Lol

Will we be able to unlock the bootloader of the OnePlus 9 phones with color OS firmware or they'll be locked like Oppo phones?

pricing it $1000 is not justifiable, especially if it's not as high end as other smartphones that are in the same price range but are more complete than it.

periscope lens with 5x or 10x optical zoom have much higher quality photos than a 3x telephoto that crops and upscales.

notafanboy, 22 Mar 2021I agree. No periscope - no buy. What is the obsession with periscope lenses?

In 20 years of owning a mobile phone I can probably count on 1 hand how many times I have used any sort of zoom function. 99% of people like myself open the camera app and take the pic, no messing around with zoom etc.

Telephoto lens is absolutely fine, no need for anything more than 3x zoom.

now that base model has Qi, let's hope the WEIGHT will be cool. So many people want smaller flagship without crippled features. Qi slow but that's fine, still on par with Samsung Ultras, and you get superfast dual battery charging, with 45W PD charging bonus. That model will be very hard to skip. I preordered the cases for both top models. The question is still how crippled the base model is, in the camera department for example.
Periscope? Didn't ever use it on any of TONS flagships, but whatever make moaners happy:)
