vivo X60 Pro+ and X60 Pro in for review

25 March 2021
vivo's svelte new flagships are here.

Really cannot wait for the X60 Pro+ full review. I definitely do hope that the ZEISS optics would improve the photo quality over last year's X50 Pro+.

P.S I wonder where did you get the Pro+ unit since it's still remain a China-only phone at the moment.

such good specs and still they left the room for people not to buy it by just limiting the storage option ,and battery .....i dont understand this attitude from all the manufacturers...its all across the board.....why cant they add more battery and add some depth to the whole phone body and flatten out the back.....redicilous

i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 26 Mar 2021Can you share link for that video?? It's a Chinese article where I used Google translate to read. Enjoy :)

Raw files of the X60 Pro Plus could be interesting. The main camera captures as much light per time as a Nikon Z50 Aps-c camera + 15mm f/3.5 lens. As the light is distributed over 12.5 megapixels instead of 20, the low light raw file image quality could be even less noisy. Though, as they capture a lot of light, I think they should have chosen a higher resolution than 12.5 megapixels.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2021The ignorance here is your comment. Cameras have stuff ... moreYou are replicating my explanation in other words. You are contradicting yourself that you claimed that a tripod was necessary for some photos. And you have not contributed anything that I did not comment on in my previous comment. So go to troll other. You were clearly wrong.

I just looked at the video of vivo's presentation. They clearly say that the sensor moves, so it's sensor shift super resolution. Very surprising. Sensor shift super resolution should only work on a tripod as there need to be precise micrometer shifts. No smartphone offers this.

Handheld super resolution could be possible, but I haven't seen a phone where it really works.
Google's zoom does not really work, there can be slightly more details (mostly in not perfect light conditions), but this is due to machine learning and multi frame noise reduction, therefore it doesn't really beat a well exposed base Iso single frame dng file.
Huawei's zoom leveraged either monochrome sensors or the higher resolution of Quad Bayer sensors and Huawei uses machine learning zoom, too. The diffraction limited 12 megapixel P40 Pro periscope camera captures slightly more detail than the 8 megapixel P30 Pro Periscope camera (which is otherwise identical), this indicates that also the P30 Pro periscope camera doesn't have an effective handheld super resolution algorithm.
Currently, only tripod sensor shift super resolution really works.

I don't understand how the pixel shift is gonna work on both as on the advertisement they link this feature to the gimbal and on the main camera of X60 Pro+ there is the classic OIS. Unless the pixel shift can be used only for the ultra wide camera of the X60 Pro+ and for the main camera of the X60 Pro. However for me the main camera is the most important so i really hope the classic OIS can also be used for pixel shift.
Why they didn't add the gimbal on the main camera of the X60 Pro+ on the first place is a good question though.

Cameras have stuff to force sensor movement. Just like done for I.B.I.S.
In this case, the gimbal system is gonna do it.
Zero to do with body shaking.

Pixel does not have similar stuff. Pixel Shift improves quality and increases resolution.
Pixel "zoom" cannot beat any 2x camera.

By the way, when you hold the phone to take photo, you body shaking moves phone only on Y axis, not X and Y.

Is it the... moreI saw a comparison between X60 Pro+, X50 Pro+, Mi 10 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro Max where the author shows the 100% crop from each phone on every scene. Over X60 Pro+, Mi 10 Ultra had a slight advantage in 1x during the daytime as well as in 2x tele, and a clear edge in 5x tele. X60 Pro+ on the other hand shows considerably more even exposure in 1x at night and absolutely decimates Xiaomi when it comes to UWA. It's pretty clear that Xiaomi will make a further leap forward in terms of image quality with Mi 11 Ultra and pulls far ahead of the competition.

So yes, X60 Pro+ will probably one of the best, and for some people the best smartphone camera UNTIL Mi 11 Ultra arrives.

In phones like Pixel ones with OIS and no electric motor, like this from Vivo, precisely the hand shake si needed to the pixel shift. If phones like this, with electric motor and gimbal stabilization is not needed as the motor already do the movement. Yes the movement needed so the tripod is the last thing you want. Ironically this phone and their cameras with gimbal will also work with a tripod BECAUSE they have an electric engine that move the sensor focus to acomplish it. So if their software already suppor it, all their sensors with hardware stabilization should work with the pixel shift technique/mode.

And these ones will depend of the price. You affirm the Pro+ will cost 1000 euros but i saw the Pro+ for 819 euros and there was a flash sale for 670 euros that sold out very fast, a lot better price than OnePlus 9 Pro. So it's a matter of how much it end costing if it worth or not its price.

Also along the time these phones drops in price significantly and if they offer in hardware what you are looking for, you could end profiting a good offer. But OnePlus control the prices and don't let them drop less few small discounts despite where or from you buy their phones.

I'm extremely interested in of plus version. Is it the best camera phone before Mi11 ultra arrives?

I would like to know what the focal length of the x60 pro+ is which I guess is 24mm equivalent, and whether the pixel shift is automatic and requires a still scene or if there’s motion compensation.

I wish there was a phone reviewer who could measure rectilinear distortion on the lenses as there’s a heavy pincushion distortion on my Nokia 7 plus, and I think the s20 ultra also has pincushion distortion
