Pre iPhone Samsung were only really making qwerty style winmo smartphones like the i320, i600 etc. and the odd failed touchscreen dumb phone (oh and literally thousands of slider phones). HTC were making winmo devices that looked ugly as sin. Se were making failed Symbian uiq devices like the p990 (which flopped badly compared to their very successful p800, p900 & p910). In fact the only smartphone of real consumer note was nokias excellent n95.
Post iPhone. Samsung came out with the omnia series.. Htc started to make sleeker devices such as the diamond and touch hd. Nokia started on phones like the 5800. In fact. At that time Samsung were still trying to make n95 competing devices such as the i8510 and g810..
Windows tried to update its os to 6.5 in an attempt to regain market share by making it easier to use.. When that failed they withdrew altogether whilst they reinvented the whole os.
Then android came along a lot later and all of a sudden it was released in the g1 as a touch os similar to iOS whereas before that all the previews showed it on a qwerty device looking for all the world like a blackberry competitor.
If you think that all of this didn't come around as a direct result of the phenomenal sales of the first iPhone then you're deluding yourself..
Read all the tech blogs from that period. They were full of tales of woe for all the other manufacturers as they struggled to come up with a device that everyone could call the iPhone killer.. If it wasn't so successful why did everyone want to come out with a competing device?
Either you're letting your hatred of the iPhone blind you or you're too young to remember what the smartphone market was like back then..

Samsung, LG, should muscle up with other players like HTC, SONY, MOROLLA& GOOGLE to cut of ties with Apple to slow down their business if this guyz don't stop bullying people around.

On the other hand I would like to think if they did try for a chunk of Android...win or lose...especially win...That some of these companies would start to form a resistance.

If apple will sue Android Jellybean then all the manufacturers of Apple's parts like Sammy's chips, LG's screen and Sony's cam should stop production for crapple coz in the end, the android manufacturers might have a problem especially for thos phones that will be updated and launched with 4.1! Android manufacturers should give apple a doze of their own medicine! Apple thinks they own everything! Especially the rectangular design with rounded edges! Get a life apple!

I would like to see what will apple do if the court stated that apple infringed samsung LTE patent
The patent that samsung broke mostly cosmetic feature (shape,icons,bounce back,pinch to zoom,etc)
Its easy to create a new handset without those feature
But will apple be able to find new type of ultrafast connectivity other than LTE right now
Samsung has return fire and its gonna hurt bad

Samsung is loosing so much market share after Apple announced the best phone on earth-iPhone 5.
The only way to slow down the sale of iPhone 5 is suing Apple for infringing the LTE patents.

Apple has one thing very clear in its mind.... first, it knows that ios doesn't stand a chance in front of android. Now to make the iphone a hot cake for long, it needs to drive the competitor out of the market so that it can sell it's devices without caring about the features much. It's the average consumer who will lose on experiencing the innovation and features if such a thing happens. For how much time can iphone 5 be in the news? After one month frm now, look back and u'll feel as if iphone 5 launch is a long gone history. Some other android device or apple vs xyz lawsuit might be stirring the news headlines of all the major tech websites.

One iOS manufacturer against countless manufacturers of Android devices, maybe. But from the day iPhone 5 is launched, Apple will actually have 3 models on sale. iPhone 4, 4S and iPhone 5. Fairly sure they did this with the launch of the last generation phone, and also the one before that too.
Just to add my two pence worth though.. credit where it's due, Apple DID make the smart phone popular and easy to use, something that WinMo and Symbian had failed to do really. So to say without the iPhone phone's wouldn't be what they are today is in fact quite true. It's a joke to say that actually invented it though, the design, form factor, software, everything, it was just a refinement of what was already out there and bringing it together.

Did it make a couple things more popular. Yes. But these idiots that think it literally revolutionized and changed everything just because the Iphone a wasted on stupid.
It helped popularity more than anything. They themselves hopped on the changing smartphone market. They happened to be among some of the first few to the newer era.
It's so sad that people truly believe Iphone did all that.
