Android--Master, 26 Mar 2021Another reason why Android is the OS of choice on smartphones.Yeah, because it's free and someone else does all the heavy coding job for them. It's not as much "OS of choice" as the only OS that's just there and anyone can use it. Apple on the other hand does ALL the R&D and all ALL the coding to make their OS function. And they keep it for themselves as they don't license it to anyone.

You say that all the time for the past 3 years, @ off @

YUKI93, 26 Mar 2021Lol, you can't even use facial recognition when you ar... moreThat's because they poorly implemented it.
Ideally a smartphone should have a dedicated security chip that handle all that and store the data away from the OS for privacy and security.
The chip should give out a security score (that the user should be able to personalize) that apps will use to allow a certain level of access.
This would allow any security (biometric or not) to be used in any apps rather than forcing the user because the dev didn't put an option for X or Y method (which also limit what type of security can be implemented).
And it should work on combination of input and partial biometric, meaning a partial face should give a lesser score than a full face, but still a better score than the PIN, and a fingerprint + pattern or fingerprint + face or even fingerprint + face + pattern should give a higher security score.
Thanks to fast reading ultrasonic FPS or capacitive, fingerprint + pattern is totally possible, and IRIS, 2D face recognition, ToF face recognition and structured light face recognition would be considered totally differently as there is a huge gab in security between them.
Having this chip made as an ASIC, the security would be handled extremely fast and accurately and would open a lot of possibilities for the future.

It shouldn't be about what method is the best, it is about allowing each user to have its favorite method(s) supported and getting the best out of it.

It is not in the interest of the brands to bring the perfect phone to the market and also to make it last for many years, because then they would sell less or stop selling altogether. That's why I think they agree among themselves (with another brands) to take away things like NFC, zoom... so that no one has everything right.

I don't really care much about the app gap as I have all the essential daily app that I need. Most people might care about WhatsApp, but that doesn't really bother me much since I'm a Telegram user. Since there are pre-installed Office apps, I'm using them via Continuum for office work. But most importantly, I'm using it as my primary mobile photography and videography gear. Up to this point, I'm yet to see any current flagship-grade Android or iOS phones that can match the same realistic detail and colour as the Lumia 950. I'm actually so impressed with the Lumia 950's photo quality that I ended up selling my Sony NEX-3N mirrorless DSLR camera.
