Huawei posts strong revenue in 2020 despite US ban

1 April 2021
The company attributes its success to its global carrier partnerships and enterprise cloud services.

Nick Tegrataker, 01 Apr 2021That makes no sense. When you don't put money out for new components and sell all the older, already paid for components your profits will definitely be higher.

They invested about $22bn in R&D and hired an army of researchers and engineers in 2020, Huawei won't go anywhere.
Their smartphone business will be back within 2 years or so.
The Chinese government is also investing a lot in chip design, foundry tech research, etc.
In the long term that ban was the best that could happen to China as the country is now more determined than before to become technologically independent. And since they got the brains and the motivation, they will succeed.

Profits surely would've been massive then if the sanctions hadn't occurred. Hence why the US was so scared of Huawei.

This is a weird spin and it's inaccurate. 3.3% is not "strong revenue" and sales are down virtually everywhere but in China. This is the international mix:

Huawei's growth was driven by its home market, with revenue in China up by 15.4% to 584.9 billion yuan.

Its business declined everywhere else, with revenues down 12.2% to 180.8 billion yuan in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, down 8.7% to 64.4 billion yuan in the rest of Asia, and down 24.5% to 39.6 billion yuan from the Americas.

Truth is, Huawei is pretty much done in the smartphone business. Spending money to manufacture devices which are not selling a fraction of what is being reported is not a great ROI. It only serves to aid in the company's rapid decline.

Huawei Has Lost Its Smartphone Crown. It May Never Get It Back

Hong Kong (CNN Business) - Just eight months ago, Huawei reached its longtime goal of becoming the world's biggest smartphone maker. Now, it is not even in the top three.

On Wednesday, the Chinese tech giant acknowledged that its smartphone business was suffering as US sanctions continue to stifle its growth, cutting off the company's ability to obtain critical components for its devices.

AnonD-986036, 01 Apr 2021I appreciated huawei for starting the trend of caring for u... moreIn Huawei flagship, Leica responsible for the forsaid focal length choice. 1x zoom on 12.5mp binned at 27mm, not 23mm. About UWA 18mm, the sensor are big, apart from camera bump control, its like they dont want fisheye look distorted focal length. They use 14mm on Pro+ version, but that with freeform lens, where distortion are fixed. No need Night Mode, Auto are excellent already. But yeah have to hold steadier because of no OIS. I guess Video was never a Leica forte anyway, but still far from bad.

Plus, focal length is differ from each preference. If u love fisheye GoPro look, then its not for you. For me, max UWA I would choose are at 16mm max. 28mm, 35mm & 50mm are my favourite, and portrait max at 80-90mm (3x zoom). More than that is not my preference, so I dont care about any periscope, which usually used for sports & wildlife photography. I'm more into streets & some portraits (therefore I bought vanilla P40).

Neither Huawei, Apple or Samsung are going anywhere anytime in the next 5 years, that much is painfully obvious.

The only thing that we will see happening for sure at this point is Huawei launching new phones with their own fork of Android...which is still Android so they immediately succeed in the one thing that killed other OS' - apps. True a lot of things are still missing but look at how far they reached in JUST 1 YEAR.
This might actually end-up legitimately splitting the user-base in a way Amazon wanted with their own fork of Android.
