People have different needs, but I'm definitely sure that there are some who really wanted a different type of phone but cannot find what suits their needs in a smartphone. I consider myself one of those.

We may never really know if it's really going to be just 8MP until the phone gets unveiled. After all, Sony is one of the best at keeping things truly confidential.

                          Another is because Sony phones are targeting a different type of audience that's not the usual consumers who would just buy any smartphone from any brand.
                          Marketing also plays a big part here, there's no need to deny it. Of course if you don't advertise enough, then you wouldn't be known enough in the society as well.
                          I'm definitely certain that if the whole world begins to know that Sony actually makes these smartphones, more than 10% of those population would switch over to them.

                          As for people buying phones with punch hole screens, it's mainly because they really have no other choice anymore, given that they don't even know that there are existing Sony phones that don't have them. If they knew there were such alternatives, then they would've made the switch already.
                          Most of the people just accepted this trend since complaining wouldn't really do anything to change the manufacturers' minds anymore, just like how they normalized not having headphone jacks on flagships despite not having any problem with it when it was still present.
                          The bar is being set lower and lower every year, so any action that reverts back to how they were supposed to be is now being glorified too much and is considered revolutionary already.

                              If any can be construed from what you have replied with is that these changes such as curved screens, no 3.5 jack, sealed units, notches, screen formats and so on are manufacturers pushing these onto the consumer, whether it is good or not but the consumer has none or limited choice but to suck it up an follow the market trends.

And please do... moreIt's simple - Sony does not flood the market with cheap crappy phones in the most lowend categories. They have a simple and smart structure of their product, instead of hurling more and more all-the-stupid-same products every week, as the chinese do.
                                Of course, people lacking money and common sense then go and buy rather a crappy xiaomi or realme, instead of top quality Sony.

                                  Design wise they are on a Galaxy S8 level 😂 stuck in 2017 like the iPhone's notch

                                    They should make an ultrawide selfie camera like they did on the XA2. I not much of a selfie fan, but having an ultrawide selfe camera, made me use my phone instead of my actioncam on trips with friends.
                                    I hope the compact one will be sold world-wide. My XA2 is getting 3 y.o. soon, and I'd really want to have a nice compact replacement.

It's like they don't w... moreI'm not saying 8MP is great for a flagship in 2021, but if it can take awesome pictures that are comparable to other flagships with even higher resolution, then it shouldn't really matter anymore.
                                        I have a phone with 20MP selfie cam, but its results are nowhere near as good as even Samsung's 10MP selfie cams, so it's possible that it would be the same with this 8MP selfie cam.
