I was an ardent follower of the Google Pixel, until I bought a 4A 5G and had to return it due to poor screen quality (Touch issues). Eventually you realize the trick why Pixel are so good at photos: the sensor (Sony) is basic, the lenses basic, but the post processing AI is brutal even in very low light. Now zoom into those photos and you'll see the makeup. They are simply photos made up to look better to the eye. They are not real photos. It´s a makeup.

Even at online shop, there aren't many sellers and price isn't competitive

Google is making phones just to have a real feedback from users regarding their entire lineup of apps. Nothing more.
The day they will compete with other OEMs, the store and all Google apps will desapear from all phones, guaranteed and they don't want that.
If somebody here thinks otherwise I'm sorry for him.

These strings of bad, unpredictable decisions are making it hard for the keen customers to plan a purchase.

Have you ever used a Pixel phone ? I had Redmi phones (redmi note 4, redmi note 9), software is garbage. Yeah on paper Xiaomi is the king but after 3 month of bugs you just want to throw it on a wall. I can't uderstand how people can use MIUI (even custom roms works better on these devices...)

I don't understand this part. I have now pixel 4a since november 2020, I have never encountered any bugs.
