Though most of the SoCs, Processors already incorporate some kind of crpto processing abilities, lot of HWs are dated and may have compatibility issues with cryptographic standards (remember AES 128, AES 256 etc.). They are also always prone to attacks one or anotherway by ever growing list of hackers ;-)
It has always been a dream of crypto HW engineers to develop true RNGs. I have had lessons during my Masters studies on difficulties faced in developing true RNGs, which are not deterministic as mentioned by a fellow commenter.

Mos... moreThis QRNG chip generates Random number from noise signals emitted by LED. Means, this does not use any algorithms or follow any patterns for Random Number Generation and therefore a true RNG.
In cryptographic world, any RNG that follows a pattern can theoretically be cracked. This means, your banking, online payment and every similar operations are prone to attack.

Wongwatt, 13 Apr 2021And why would I want a random number generator on my phone? Generating cryptographic keys requires a random number generator. If cryptographic keys are deterministic, they are useless. As an analogy, it's like locking your door with a lock that can be unlocked by a key that anyone can buy from any convenient store.
