TI says it's not giving up on OMAP chipsets, OMAP 5 on track

The article mentions in multiple places that OMAP5 would be the first A15 part in the market place and it's not an accurate statement. Exynos series (Samsung mobile CPU) already sampled A15 a while back and in fact the recently announced (2012.10.19)Google Chromebook hosts the Exynos part. Please increase the level of accuracy if 'credibility' is something the writer and the site value. Thanks.

Shees... this cip was announces OVER A YEAR AGO!
I know! I still have the ORIGINAL PDF spec's when it was announced! Two A15's and two Cortex M4's!, POWERVR™ SGX544, High-bandwidth memory interface
with 8.5 GB/s
• OMAP5430 – 2-channel LPDDR2 @532 MHz
• OMAP5432 – 2-channel DDR3 @532 MHz
• Supports up to 4 displays: three high-resolution LCD displays and
external HDMI 1.4a HDTV output
Backwards compatibility • Begin development with the OMAP 4 platform and migrate
easily later to the OMAP 5 platform
Problem with the last one is, they got stuck on OMAP4!
It was to be built on a 28nm process. All this from their original spec sheet dated 2011-07-13!
Took them a very long time. Orinally planned for late last year, then moved to Q2/12 then Q3/12 then Q4/12 with some devices available just in time for the Christmas period and then Q1/13.
Sampling was or did start in August 2012...
Just don't know with them anymore, as an electronics developer... I lost my trust in their timelines.
Kudos though to the video they had made last year for it with integrated pico-projector, NFS payment system, being able to drive some great external displays etc...

@anonymous: TI had decided to ramp down on the baseband (modem) few years back. So now, they do not integrate the base-band processors along with the ARM cores. This is the main reason why they are facing stiff competition from players like Qualcomm, who integrate the processor+base-band on the same die.

If the competition is gaining share due to integrated modems, why have TI not done a line with integrated modems? Are they working on one for their 5th gen cores?

I like TI OMAP. Works absolutely great in the Samsung/Google Galaxy Nexus (OMAP446).
Hey, if it is good enough to be the reference
CPU used for the (currently) latest available
Android release it should be good enough in
the future.

Let me remind people..
N95 had an omap in and it kicked some serious ass back in it's day, don't discredit TI quite yet.

Anonymous, 27 Sep 2012TI chips are slow as hell...look at the galaxy nexus, that ... moreHehehe I feel very inteligent when somebody says something like that.
TI is one of the best processor manufacturers out there, they have been very slow on bringing new things. They have beat competition from others when we are speaking about the same time.

I think motorola should support Texas instruments
for two reasons
1. they're American
2. they're open source about the chipset drivers

TI chips are slow as hell...look at the galaxy nexus, that chip was sooo sluggish. TI better pick up their game because Qualcomm is hitting hard with their new chips.

TGIF tomorrow! Hopefully TI will be more aggressive at OMAP line's openness for an all out win (by now they should realize that particular aspect's critical importance). Devs will get behind that no doubt.
