Weekly poll results: Sony's Xperia Mark III lineup excites, a price cut may take it a long way

25 April 2021
With unique features and a design that doesn't follow the mainstream, these three could be a success - but the price is a bit high.

What happened to all the hype surrounding a 5.5 inch compact Sony Xperia?

Anonymous, 25 Apr 2021Not to forget it is incredibly ugly looking.... just two re... moreSo, do you want Sony to ditch all their signature design such that blocky form factor that defines their identity since Xperia Z of 2013 and follows every trend blatantly and relentlessly as they did with their 2018 Xperia lineup just to please people like you? C'mon man, both haters like you and fans really despise that design very much when it leaked. Because of that reason as well, Sony hears its fans bring back their signature squarish form-factor in 2019 and it still stays until now with these Mark III lineups, and Sony decided to stop following stupid smartphone trends like removing the MicroSDXC slot.
    .
It's just like saying Taylor Swift should abandon its country music roots that cemented her identity over the years and follows every trend blatantly without carrying their fans' desire in the first place. If Taylor follow and did that just like your analogy, Taylor wouldn't achieve a record for being the first artist to reach no.1 on Billboard 200 Chart with a re-recorded album and wouldn't be so successful right now. Just saying.

Heck, I actually reached out to a company once to see how much parts costed because I wanted to crowd-fund an Android One phone with XDA custom ROM support but NOBODY would help me. For those telling me: "make your own phone then", I CAN'T!! lol

Unless more customers buy Sony, Asus etc. again soon, manufacturers will simply stop building smartphones. And then the Chinese manufacturers achieved exactly what they wanted. And I hope that not even one person here believes that the prices for the China Phones will not skyrocket as soon as the Chinese own the market completely ?! And then I want to see who of the clever guys celebrates the Chinese smartphones like Xiaomi and Oppo. Everyone will curse, but then it will be too late.

I consider the Pixel line very niche here and it's my favorite phone series but I don't expect it to be around forever.

With that said, I lived in the Philippines too. They offer so many different brands. The problem is when we buy a rarer phone here, who will fix them? I'm still using an Essential Phone as I retired my LG G5 and Pixel 3 to make way for the iPhone 12 mini. What happens if my Essential Phone battery eventually dies? Nobody to repair it.

I can see the Pixel line dying and Sony leaving the mobile industry just like LG did. In America, it's really just a duopoly between Apple and Samsung. Their phones can last longer because they have many shops that fixes them.

I have seen some Xiaomi commercials lately, and that starts with Mi A2 3 years ago and that was noticeable (TV and Radio ads), just saying. I wouldn't debate about its market performance though, it's stellar until now and I acknowledged that. I used to own Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime and it was great. There. I just wish Xiaomi upgraded their USB Wired Port to 3.1 and offer more of their mid-ranger with a telephoto lens.

                I love Sony Xperia phones.
So for personal use, I have purchased them exclusively.
The problem is, I'm tired of paying outright, and Xperia phones are quite expensive.
Sony has pulled their phones from Canadian retailers AND more importantly, all carriers too, so I must unfortunately order from abroad.
It's so unfair and infuriating, that I sadly feel forced to consider other options.
During a pandemic, the pricing is just too high without a carrier plan.
..this makes me so upset though, because my XZ Premium (that I paid outright for) is a few yars old now, and definitely due for an upgrade, and I so badly want the 1 mark III to be the phone it upgrades to.
I just know I'm not going to be happy with any other device.
A a single father of a special needs child however, my options are currently, relatively limited. 😔

Too bad nobody really buys Sony phones. And if they break or needs a battery replacement, who will fix them? They may charge higher because it's not common. That's from my own experience owning a Mitsubishi. Rarer cars can get expensive with parts. Apple and Samsung are as common as Honda and Toyota. Easier to repair.

I have not branded version from Sony shop (and from Beta 10 I have unlocked developer version). I dont see any degradation since buy. Maybe XZ premium take more battery.

That's why I'm getting an Xperia as well. I would have gotten another LG this year but they're gone so...Sony wins for my needs.

Anonymous, 25 Apr 2021I had Xz premium.... had to replace battery within 8 months... moreWell, my secondary-hand Xperia Z5 of 2015 I purchased in March 2018 took a lot of beating, both internally (overheat, Snapdragon 810 inefficiency & throttling) and externally (intense using for 7+ hours, broken headphone jack, cracked screen, losing top-right side bumper), and it did great and only the battery start to bloating in late 2020, but it still handles as I know previously, and I only planned to change the battery later.

I also own XZ Premium of 2017, also secondary-hand, I purchased it in late 2019 and it still performing the same way as I purchased it, despite intense use for hours and playing games such as Asphalt 9 as I did with my Z5, and the battery did just well. Just saying in my experience of owning 6 phones Sony since Live with Walkman WT19i since 2011. Sure I did own Xiaomi in 2015 (it was Redmi 2 Prime) and it was great as well, but Sony did cater to my needing perfectly, especially 1 III that definitely my next phone but unfortunately it will also be my last Sony phone due to regulations in my country getting much harder to own international phones.

For example, I can happily say even today I personally did not like Sony's XZ3 in terms of design. That's just personal opinion. Similarly I expressed I did not like current other brand's design (Like punchholes or aspect ratio) compared to Sony. I don't know what is wrong in that.

S dog, 25 Apr 2021This is bad from sony. They should start budget phonesDude, if Sony starts from budget phones instead of their flagship series, Sony had to sustain more loss than profits as Break-Even Point for budget phones for Sony-level are harder than Break-Even Point for flagship phones. Especially when Sony Xperia average selling price is now at around $1.060, proving most of their revenues came from their flagships instead of their budgets or mid-ranges since the late 2010s (2017 to 2019).
