Leaked nubia Z30 render shows an under display selfie camera, quad cam with periscope

28 April 2021
The render doesn't make it clear whether there will be a secondary display on the back like the one the Z20 had.

sq2013, 05 May 2021It's not as simple as that. Manufacturers will base th... moreThat's only because the smartphone market is poorly done to begin with.
In every other market, including some, where things are harder, costlier and take more time and require more R&D to make, like automobile, we have a great diversity.
We have tiny, huge, short, long cars, there are SUV, Pickup Trucks, Berlines, etc.
You have many engines type and subtypes, they literally came in all shape and size, you have low cost mass product ones and super expensive limited to only 100, or even 10 models.
Still they aren't stuck with a single design, and it would be quite more efficient and practical if they all agreed that only a single type of car should start to be made, so they can maximize profits.
Literally there are tons of parts that are unique and can't be re-used, an engine doesn't necessarily fit all hoods, and you have some physical limits like power to weight ratio, meaning you can't make a huge car with a too weak engine.

On the other hand, smartphones could EASILY be made from a universal platform/body that can just vary in size and shape if needed, so each brand would have its own base, and from that they could re-use as many components AND drivers, which could not require an individual Android per phone, like we don't need a special build Windows or Linux per PC, mainly considering that Android is based on Linux...
Making both a Flat and Curved display variant of the same phone should be EXTREMELY EASY, but they made it, so it almost requires to reinvent the wheel to do that.
That's the problem, well, a part of it, many phones proved that they don't necessarily require to be bestseller of the year to make profits, even something as niche as the LG Wing could be a regular occurrence and still allow for profits.
Smartphones with pop up had a great success, both in terms of number of unit sold and user appreciation, badmouthing from fearmongers about moving parts killed a lot of their success, but still they sold well, mainly considering the cost of something like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

There isn't any other market than Smartphone that I can think of where absolutely no demands are answered and only a single design, that doesn't even make sense, is the only option.
Removing a part of the display to allow for more display CANNOT be a solution, and even less "the", just saying/writing it should make anyone understand how flawed the concept is.
In every markets that I can think of, there are many products, not all are aimed at the majority, and it works well, some brands are only doing that in fact, that's why stuff like Thrustmaster MFD Cougar exist for example, there isn't a massive demand for such thing, yet they can still do it.
Heck there are even niche add-ons sellers for niche products...
Like direct drive wheel customization mods, or HOTAS stick mods, or VR components...
So why is it that the Smartphone market is only focusing on a single design while the main strength of Android is its diversity and potential for customization?
Why is it that anything not trending is killed?
And why is it that only the worst things become trending and the best get forgotten?
What other market abandon anything that isn't a bestseller?

Manufacturers will base their phones on the consensus because the more people it appeals to, the more people who will buy and that's the bottom line. I think that I said this before to yourself but enough people didn't buy the phones with motorised camera's so it was a test of the market and after feeling out the response of the market, it was clearly not popular enough and it's the same with a lot of other innovations. Innovation for the sake of it is not enough. It has to work sufficiently well. The majority must want thinner phones with reasonably big batteries but clearly a number of manufacturers particularly in the midrange are producing phones with big batteries too that are huge phones like the Poco X3 NFC and X3 pro. Their batteries are huge. I prefer the likes of the poco F3 which is a little slimmer but there's demand for both so the manufacturers are generally following what the market is asking for. Look at LG. They tried to innovate with the modular G5 but it flopped. They continued to try and innovate with a few other phones with dual screens for example. The attempt to innovate with the G5 backfired spectacularly and fans never got back on side. An incorrect attempt at innovation can destroy a company's reputation. Same with HTC. Again tried to get clever and strayed from a proven strategy that worked and now they're nowhere.

beep bop boop, 29 Apr 2021no dude, sending a poll on your social media, having the fa... moreI meant that, when I simply say I want an expensive phone to NOT miss out on the important and useful Telephoto, and to avoid too low resolution sensors, everyone asks as if I ask for a 5k$ Pro DSLR level camera included with it.

And there shouldn't be the need for a pool, like every other industry, user feedback, comments on websites, user requests and all that should simply be analyzed and enough diversity of product should be made to fill most demands, and simply make more or less of X or Y phone depending on the demand, and of course re-using components and software, as it is totally stupid to have to re-invent the wheel at every new phone, the fact that you need a specific variant of Android per device rather than having a single OS with drivers (despite Android actually having drivers anyway) is pure madness.

But user feedback, comments and user requests CAN'T be listened to, and I think it is the ONLY industry in which it happens.
*Someone says he likes pop up camera, then haters can't stop themselves and have to tell him he has the wrong tastes and that pop up camera shouldn't exist.
*Someone asks for a thicker phone with more battery, he is an alien who don't understand that slim is cool.
*Someone makes a proposal, regardless if this is the worst or the best idea of the world, it will receive as much non-constructive criticisms in both cases.
No wonder phones are all the sames now, with such an awful community, you can't do what every market do, that is just looking at what fan want and doing it.

I am not surprised that OnePlus ditched the 3.5mm Jack despite the majority having voted for it, I am sure the poll comment session was full of haters who couldn't resist to badmouth the 3.5mm Jack for the sake of hating it.

Personally, I think curved edge display look meh, but more importantly, they are awful to use, and in picture the may look good to some, but in reality, they don't really add much.
Literally the ONLY thing they did compared to other phone was to have no hole, which apparently everyone thing is gorgeous, and at the same time I am weird, have bad tastes and demand too much because I want a phone without a punch hole, see how toxic is this community?
They could have kept the dual display and improve it to add NFC which was the only thing missing other than the 3.5mm Jack, but they took the underdisplay camera route, the only reason why someone would choose this over something else like a pop up camera or this :
        https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-under-display-camera-phone-1188611/
Is for following trends, nothing else.

Yes, it has a Periscope, but all expensive phone should have one anyway, considering its predecessor had a 3x Telephoto it isn't surprising.
I am not saying this isn't good, that's a good move, but it shouldn't be something we need to praise, it should be normal.

Also, note that this is a render, an "alleged render of the Nubia Z30", and so far except the Axon 20 who offered an awful underdisplay camera, no one had done it, the Oppo Find X2 was supposed to have one, they released the Find X3 without even trying, so I wouldn't be surprised if this phone also endup with a punch hole, and that despite a lot have voted for camera, it still has the 2Mp sensor plague...

AnonD-909757, 29 Apr 2021Doing what? Making a good phone? Yeah, you are right, this... moreno dude, sending a poll on your social media, having the fans respond, and then executing the things on your next phone based on what the consumers want. Nubia did just that. the fans wanted "appearance" as a main feature, and now the leak looks absolutely gorgeous and cameras in 2nd place, and the leaked one has a periscope (though it does not appear to be there in the camera island)

Regardless of the under screen camera, technology at least Nubia are attempting something different and innovative, as I have heard that Samsung will be bringing a phone out later this year with undescreen camera. I believe this will follow a trend of other smartphone brands attempting to bring this technology.aswell. Bazel less displays will always be the way forward. There's no excuse to bring out a phone with a punch hole, tear drop, or cut out wedge for a display. Great Innovation Nubia, your a winner. Looking forward to the Nubia Z30

"nubia’s Weibo account ran a poll among fans asking what would be the most-valued features of the upcoming nubia Z-series flagship. “Appearance” won the poll with “photography” a close second"

And then you have idiots who think they know better who are like :
"ThIs A pHoNe, NoT a CaMeRa, Go BuY a DsLr"

Anyway, the phone look nice with no horror hole/notch on it, but, regardless if it sounds harsh or not, II hope the underdisplay camera will have crappy quality, so its hype loose momentum and people stop to want it to REPLACE other alternatives.
The second display on the back was a much better solution, probably cheaper too, and allowed to use the much superior main cameras to take selfies.
Now ironically, the selfie will have an awful quality, all that while being a privacy nightmare.

Well I can't complain that they added a curved edge display as its predecessor has one, but another variant with a flat display would probably have much more success and be much cheaper too.

Lets just hope though they didn't put ridiculous 2Mp sensors on this.

I love Nubia Z series ever since Z20 man, Z18 waas great too but Z20... Something else, they need to go biiig, big big
